A group of 130 front desk casino workers at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas has voted overwhelmingly to unionize with Teamsters Local 986, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters announced on May 16, 2026. The successful organizing drive gives the union what it describes as wall-to-wall representation at the resort property.

The newly organized front desk employees join more than 250 Teamsters already working at Mandalay Bay in valet, horticulture, warehouse, and call center positions. The result means virtually every major operational department at the property now falls under Teamsters representation — a milestone that carries significant implications for labor cost structures, scheduling, and contract negotiations at the resort.

For hospitality operators watching the Las Vegas market, the vote is a signal that organizing momentum is not confined to food and beverage or housekeeping roles. Guest-facing front desk positions — long considered harder to organize at large integrated resort properties — are now part of the union footprint at Mandalay Bay. Operators in other major gaming and convention markets may want to assess how similar drives could affect their own labor relations strategies.

The development adds to a broader pattern of hospitality labor organizing activity that has accelerated across the industry over the past several years, particularly at large full-service properties where workers in multiple departments have sought coordinated representation. Industry observers and restaurant and hospitality operators tracking workforce trends have noted that wall-to-wall union coverage at a single property creates unified bargaining leverage that can reshape everything from wage floors to work rules across an entire operation.

Teamsters Local 986 is based in California and represents workers across transportation, warehouse, and service industries throughout the western United States. Terms of the new contract covering the 130 front desk workers have not yet been disclosed.
