Celebrity Chef Launches First Full-Service Restaurant in Buena Vista Chef Robyn Almodovar, a television personality and entrepreneur with appearances on Gordon Ramsay's Hell's Kitchen and Food Network's Chopped, Cutthroat Kitchen, and 24 in 24: Last Chef Standing, will open aAO (Against All Odds) this winter at 4204 NW Second Ave. in Miami's Buena Vista neighborhood. The 4,400-square-foot restaurant marks Almodovar's first full-service venture and will employ approximately 50 people. "Buena Vista has a strong neighborhood identity while still being connected to the energy of Miami. That felt right for aAO," said Almodovar. "I envision a Brooklyn neo-soul-inspired restaurant where people can gather, feel at home and connect over food. The menu is personal, and so is the name. aAO reflects my journey and celebrates the hustlers, go-getters and people who keep pushing forward."
Design and Layout Designer Michael Tronn created distinct yet interconnected interior "atmospheres" that blend industrial elements with rich textures, custom furnishings, and intimate gathering spaces. The dining room seats 122 guests, with a bar and lounge accommodating more than 30 additional guests across 15 bar stools and couch seating. Design elements include wood, concrete, leather, geometric woodwork, and caramel and black leather upholstery. A standout feature is a 10-seat chef's table set against a gallery wall of family portraits honoring the people who supported the restaurant's creation. Outside, a 1,200-square-foot courtyard with 40 seats offers alfresco dining beneath trees and string lights.
Menu and Programming The menu draws from Almodovar's career experiences and South Florida's culinary traditions.
Signature dishes include Beef Wellington, a nod to her Hell's Kitchen appearance, and new creations such as grilled octopus with smoked bravas sauce. Weekly programming includes happy hour and Industry Night, an evening dedicated to Miami's hospitality professionals. The restaurant will be open 4–11 p.m. Sundays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, and 4 p.m.–2 a.m. Fridays and Saturdays. It will be closed Mondays and Tuesdays.
Background Almodovar brings over two decades of culinary experience.
Her food truck and catering company, Palate Party, was South Florida's first female-owned, non-dessert food truck and earned Miami New Times' Best Food Truck honors in 2013. She previously served as executive chef at the historic Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado. Co-Founder Austin Gaines, a Miami-based entrepreneur and founding partner of New York City's award-winning Arcane Estate Coffee, collaborates on the venture. "Robyn brings a clear culinary vision, and my role is to help translate that into every part of the guest experience," said Gaines. "We want the restaurant to feel welcoming, flow naturally between indoors and out and become a place the neighborhood makes its own."
Why It Matters
The opening adds a significant operator-led restaurant to Miami's competitive dining scene at a time when chef-driven concepts with strong hospitality programming are gaining traction. Almodovar's media platform and experience running multiple food concepts position aAO as a potential draw for both neighborhood regulars and visitors seeking experiential dining.
