Alidoro, the SoHo-founded Italian sandwich shop, officially opens its newest Manhattan location at One Madison Avenue on Thursday, July 9, as the brand celebrates its 40th anniversary. Under CEO Jon Streep's leadership, Alidoro has expanded beyond its original 1986 flagship while maintaining its focus on craftsmanship and independent operations. The new 1,000-square-foot location represents the latest step in the brand's citywide growth strategy.

Expansion Timeline The One Madison opening precedes a series of planned locations: the Empire State Building in September 2026, JFK Airport Terminal 6 later this year, and a FiDi location by 2027.

Sandwich Craft and Menu Alidoro's menu features 21 signature Italian sandwiches made fresh daily.

Each sandwich uses artisan bread baked specifically for the brand each morning, imported meats and cheeses sliced to exact specifications, house-made spreads, and thoughtfully layered ingredients. The brand was recognized by the New York Times as one of the "57 Sandwiches That Define NYC." The One Madison location will launch with breakfast sandwiches, Afficionado Coffee offerings, and pastries. Signature condiments including black garlic mustard and truffle cream have become hallmarks of the brand's catering offerings and seasonal collaborations.

Experiential Hospitality Alidoro is evolving beyond the quick-service model to emphasize atmosphere and culture.

Future locations will feature a listening-room-inspired experience modeled after Japanese hi-fi listening rooms. The Empire State Building outpost will debut this concept in partnership with 1-Sound and music curator Dash Brody, creating a curated sound environment designed to enhance the dining experience.

Match Day Activation As part of NYC Tourism's Kick It in NYC Match Day dining program, Alidoro's Rockefeller Center location (1 Rockefeller Plaza, Concourse Level) is serving a limited-time sandwich called il Calcio from July 6–19. The sandwich features porchetta, prosciutto, ham, fresh mozzarella, giardiniera, habanero mustard, salsa verde, and Mike's Hot Honey, offered as part of a $26 Match Day Meal with chips, a cookie, and a soda. The brand's best-selling sandwiches—Gothamist and Pinocchio—are also available from a specialty cart outdoors at Rockefeller Center during the activation.

Why It Matters

Alidoro's expansion strategy balances high-traffic retail locations (airports, landmark buildings) with Manhattan's premium retail market, signaling confidence in sandwich-focused quick-service models in an increasingly competitive food hall and transit concourse landscape. The integration of experiential hospitality elements like curated sound design indicates operators' growing focus on sensory differentiation beyond product alone.
