PIM Brands' Sour Jacks is rolling out Sour Jacks Showdown, an eight-episode social-first competition series that places the sour candy brand squarely inside gaming culture — and hands one creator a $25,000 grand prize in the process. The trailer dropped October 14, with weekly episodes set to stream across the brand's TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube channels beginning the following week.
The Format
Breakout streamer JasonTheWeen hosts the series, which follows four emerging creators — MrsChimChim, Guapo, Splink, and Jalon — through a gauntlet of challenges designed to echo the brand's signature multi-layered sour experience. Contestants earn points, climb a leaderboard, and compete for the title of "Jack of All Games." Each full episode is sliced into shorter, shareable clips built for the scroll-first viewing habits of the platform audiences the brand is targeting.
"Gaming feels like a natural home for Sour Jacks because the idea of leveling-up is already central to how our fans play, compete and connect," said Patty Gonzalez, Senior Vice President of Marketing, Confections at PIM Brands. "Sour Jacks Showdown brings our 'Level Up' brand platform to life by giving creators a chance to grow their audiences and showcase their skills."
Why It Matters for the Trade
For confectionery and snack brands competing for shelf attention and consumer mindshare, the series signals a broader shift in how CPG companies are allocating marketing budgets. Rather than traditional broadcast or display advertising, PIM Brands is betting on creator-economy infrastructure — episodic content, interactive fan moments, and exclusive loot unlocks — to build habitual engagement with a candy brand. The approach mirrors tactics increasingly adopted across the food and beverage marketing landscape, where brands are producing original content rather than sponsoring existing programming.
The fan-facing incentives extend beyond passive viewing: as episodes unfold, audiences can unlock exclusive prizes and participate in interactive moments, deepening the loyalty loop that brands in competitive snack categories are racing to build. That strategy aligns with what beverage and snack brands have pursued through influencer partnerships over the past several years, though a fully branded episodic series of this length represents a more committed production investment than a one-off sponsorship.
PIM Brands, the family-owned CPG company behind Welch's Fruit Snacks, Sun-Maid Chocolate Raisins, and a broad portfolio of confections, ranks among the top confectionery companies globally according to Candy Industry Magazine. The Sour Jacks activation is its latest move to expand brand equity beyond traditional retail touchpoints and into communities where Gen Z and younger millennial consumers actually spend their time.
