Natural Grocers by Vitamin Cottage is channeling its 71 Four Corners–region stores into a disaster-relief fundraising drive, collecting register donations for the American Red Cross through November 22 to aid communities hit by catastrophic flooding across Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, and Utah.

Shoppers at participating locations can round up their purchase or add a flat $1, $5, or $10 donation at checkout. The breakdown by state: 45 Colorado stores, 11 in Arizona, 8 in Utah, and 7 in New Mexico. All funds flow directly to the American Red Cross for regional flood relief efforts.

The Matching Commitment

Natural Grocers is amplifying the campaign with a corporate match of up to $10,000. "Our communities are strongest when we come together, especially during times of unexpected hardship," said Raquel Isely, vice president of marketing for Natural Grocers. "By matching customer donations up to $10,000, we're proud to help extend the impact of our customers' generosity and provide additional support for those affected."

Operator Takeaways for the Industry

For grocery and specialty food retailers watching the playbook, the campaign illustrates how a regional operator can mobilize a store network quickly around a hyperlocal disaster event. Register-round-up and flat-donation programs have become a standard community-engagement tool across foodservice and retail — low friction for the customer, high visibility for the brand at the point of sale. The Four Corners flooding displaced families and damaged infrastructure across the region, giving the initiative immediate local resonance that broad national campaigns can lack.

Natural Grocers, headquartered in Lakewood, Colo., operates 175 stores across 22 states and positions community commitment as one of its five founding principles. The Lakewood-based chain, which trades on the NYSE as NGVC, reported investing more than $16 million in incremental crew compensation and discretionary payments in fiscal year 2025, underscoring a broader corporate-values posture that informs community-facing programs like this one.

Regional disaster-relief partnerships between grocers and nonprofit organizations have grown increasingly common as climate-related events disrupt supply chains and local economies alike — a trend our restaurant and hospitality industry coverage has tracked across multiple operator segments.
