Michelin Star Chef Brings Culinary Education to Central London Luxury
Hotel The Langham, London has launched Sauce by The Langham, a cookery school situated within the five-star property and led by Michelin-starred chef Michel Roux Jr. The school marks the first such culinary education facility housed within a central London luxury hotel. Roux, who spent over three decades leading Le Gavroche—the first UK restaurant to achieve one, two, and three Michelin stars—has served as a consultant to The Langham for a decade, shaping the hotel's culinary identity across its restaurants, in-room dining, and afternoon tea service. "Michel Roux's passion for food, dedication to culinary craft and long-standing relationship with The Langham make him a natural addition to our Langham Luminaries lineup," said Langham Hospitality Group Chief Executive Officer Bob van den Oord. "His story is one of curiosity, discovery and a deep appreciation for people and place – qualities that align closely with the values of our flagship brand."
A Career Built on Classical Technique and British Ingredients Roux's
culinary philosophy centers on refined yet approachable dining. "Comfort food for me is something that's been lovingly cooked. And it doesn't have to be fanciful. That's what I want to transmit in my food, especially at The Wigmore," he said, referring to the hotel's signature restaurant. Born into a legendary culinary family, Roux has built a career spanning three decades in professional kitchens and television, hosting programs including Kitchen Impossible, Michel Roux's French Country Cooking, and Five Star Kitchen: Britain's Next Great Chef.
Langham Luminaries Campaign Expands Roux joins The Langham's "Your Story.
Our Legacy." brand campaign as a Langham Luminary, a roster of distinguished figures from culture, design, and gastronomy launched in January 2025. The campaign also includes musical theatre star Ayanga, Grammy Award-winning violinist Joshua Bell, and entertainment icon Dannii Minogue, among others. The initiative celebrates figures whose personal journeys reflect the multifaceted spirit of the 160-year-old brand, which opened as Europe's first Grand Hotel in London in 1865.
Why It Matters For hospitality operators, the launch signals a
growing trend of luxury hotels differentiating through culinary education and chef-led experiences. With fine dining under margin pressure, hotels are extending revenue streams and deepening guest engagement through immersive programming. Roux's involvement underscores how established chefs with media profiles and culinary credibility can elevate a property's food offering beyond the dining room.
