Water Sport Innovation Comes to South Florida Luxury Market
InflatableIsland.co has completed installation of what it claims is the first floating pickleball court at a residential resort property, delivering the custom-built facility to SoLé Mia, a 184-acre master-planned community in North Miami.
The inflatable court floats directly on the resort's lagoon, allowing residents and guests to play regulation pickleball on the water—an amenity that has not previously been available at a residential resort of this type.
Market Context: Pickleball Boom Drives Amenity Competition
Pickleball has grown into the fastest-expanding sport in the United States for three consecutive years, with over 36 million players nationwide. As luxury residential communities compete for distinctive lifestyle offerings, water-based courts represent a new frontier in resort differentiation.
SoLé Mia's lagoon-based facility measures 66 feet by 33 feet and features a 44-foot by 20-foot playing surface constructed from high-density DWF material—the same material used in professional stand-up paddleboards. The court includes official court markings, custom SoLé Mia branding, and an anchoring system that secures it to the water.
"We wanted something that was completely unlike anything else at any resort in the country," a SoLé Mia spokesperson said. "This floating pickleball court is exactly that. It is a statement piece for the lagoon, and it gives our residents a truly one-of-a-kind way to enjoy the water and stay active."
Construction and Specifications
The court is fabricated from commercial-grade PVC with full custom branding applied directly to the surface. It inflates in 60 to 90 minutes using included air pumps and features a front entry base for player access from the lagoon's edge.
InflatableIsland.co offers the floating court in three configurations: Standard (59 feet by 29.5 feet), Large (66 feet by 33 feet with front entry base), and X-Large (72 feet by 33 feet by 9 feet high with full perimeter netting walls). All models include official court dimensions, custom color and logo options, air pumps, anchoring systems, storage bags, and two-year limited warranties. Production timelines range from 60 to 90 days, with expedited options available.
"Pickleball on the water is something our customers have been asking about for years, and the SoLé Mia installation is proof of what's possible," an Inflatable Island spokesperson said. "We're proud to have built something that will become a signature part of the SoLé Mia experience for years to come. This is a court that photographs beautifully, plays authentically, and holds up to serious use."
Broader Applications
The company also manufactures a land-based inflatable pickleball court for events, campuses, and venues without water access. Inflatable Island, based in Pismo Beach, California, designs and builds custom commercial-grade inflatables for resorts, military installations, school districts, municipalities, and sports teams.
Why It Matters
For resort operators, the SoLé Mia installation signals how experiential amenities tied to trending sports can enhance property positioning in competitive luxury markets. As pickleball participation continues to surge, particularly among affluent demographics, water-based play surfaces offer a novel revenue and retention lever—and significant social media appeal for property marketing.
