A national food poisoning law firm has filed the first E. coli lawsuit against fast-casual chain The Kebab Shop and its beef supplier, Olympia Foods, in Orange County, California. The suit, brought by Ron Simon & Associates alongside The Gomez Trial Attorneys, was filed on behalf of a minor identified as KG, represented by her father, Jeffrey Gogue.
According to the complaint, KG consumed a beef kofta plate at The Kebab Shop on April 28, 2026. She initially presented with diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and dehydration — symptoms consistent with E. coli O157:H7 infection — but her condition deteriorated rapidly. KG was admitted to Children's Hospital, where she was treated for 17 days and developed acute kidney failure and hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS). She remains in guarded condition.
For restaurant operators, the case underscores the acute liability exposure that can follow a single contaminated ingredient moving through a supply chain. The lawsuit names not only the restaurant chain but also Olympia Foods, the beef supplier, signaling that plaintiffs' attorneys are pursuing the full chain of custody. Operators sourcing ground beef or other high-risk proteins should review supplier food safety certifications, traceability protocols, and indemnification clauses in their vendor contracts. Our restaurant food safety coverage has previously detailed best practices for supplier auditing in exactly these scenarios.
E. coli O157:H7 is a particularly dangerous strain because of its capacity to trigger HUS, a life-threatening condition that disproportionately affects children and can cause irreversible kidney damage. The filing notes that any consumer who ate at The Kebab Shop in late March or April 2026 should seek medical attention if they experience symptoms of E. coli infection. The broader food safety and contamination trends tracked across the beverage and food industry suggest that supply chain transparency is becoming both a legal and reputational imperative for emerging chains.
The Kebab Shop operates fast-casual Mediterranean-style restaurants across multiple Western states. Neither the chain nor Olympia Foods had issued public statements as of the time of filing. A copy of the lawsuit is available through Ron Simon & Associates upon request.
