A candy brand crossing into chicken wings is the kind of limited-time play that either intrigues or baffles operators — and Wingstop is clearly betting on intrigue. The Dallas-based chain, which operates more than 3,000 restaurants worldwide, is launching SOUR PATCH KIDS Wicked Punch on Oct. 27, a collaboration with Mondelēz International's SOUR PATCH KIDS brand that applies a SOUR THEN SWEET REDBERRY glaze and finishes each order with SOUR PATCH KIDS Bitz candy pieces. The flavor is available across all proteins and runs through Nov. 5.
Club Wingstop loyalty members get a four-day head start, with exclusive early access beginning Oct. 23 — a sequenced rollout that rewards the chain's most engaged guests before the flavor hits the broader public. Ordering is available through the Wingstop app and Wingstop.com.
The Brand Logic
For Wingstop, the collab extends a well-worn QSR playbook: anchor a limited-time offer to a cultural moment — in this case Halloween — and tie it to a recognizable IP that carries its own consumer fanbase. SOUR PATCH KIDS Wicked Punch is framed as the opening act of the SOUR PATCH KIDS brand's "13 Days of Mischief" seasonal program, meaning Mondelēz International is also driving promotional energy toward the partnership from the candy side.
"Candy on wings? We know exactly what you're thinking. But no, seriously, it has no business being this good," said Michael Skipworth, President and CEO of Wingstop. "It may sound unexpected, but one bite is all it takes to understand why this one is a treat."
Lauryn McDonough, Senior Director, Candy at Mondelēz International, called the wing flavor "the first taste" of the seasonal mischief campaign, noting that translating the brand's signature profile into a savory application signals a willingness to extend the IP well beyond the candy aisle.
What It Means for Operators
For Wingstop franchisees, the mechanics here matter as much as the flavor itself. The short window — roughly ten days of broad availability — creates genuine urgency without burdening kitchens with a long-term menu addition. At the same time, the loyalty-first early-access model gives brand partners a clear incentive to push Club Wingstop enrollment ahead of the drop, tying LTO excitement directly to CRM growth.
The candy-wing genre is increasingly viable as QSR flavor innovation pushes further into sweet-savory crossover territory. Chains that generate social conversation through unexpected ingredient pairings have demonstrated measurable lift in digital ordering — a channel Wingstop has invested in aggressively, generating over $5 billion in system-wide sales in fiscal 2025 with a digital-first ordering model.
For the broader foodservice and beverage industry, the Wingstop–Mondelēz partnership is a useful case study in CPG-to-restaurant co-branding: a snack brand extends its seasonal relevance into foodservice, while a restaurant chain borrows the candy brand's cultural equity to differentiate its LTO from a crowded Halloween promotional calendar. Both parties get media amplification that neither could generate independently at the same cost.
Wicked Punch disappears from menus after Nov. 5 at participating U.S. locations, while supplies last.
