A four-story, 30,000-square-foot rickhouse and visitor center opened August 8 at WildHorse Ranch in College Station, Texas, marking the most ambitious hospitality investment yet from Unreined Whiskey. The facility integrates spirit production, experiential tours, private event space, and a speakeasy-style lounge under one roof — a model increasingly common among craft spirits producers looking to build direct consumer relationships.
The Facility
Built by Bardstown, Kentucky-based Buzick Construction and designed by Louisville firm Joseph & Joseph, the rickhouse draws on traditional Kentucky aging architecture while adapting to the Texas climate. Nelson Ingram, Chief Marketing Officer & Blender, described the WildHorse Ranch site as offering "a unique combination of temperature and humidity that allows our whiskey to develop rich, complex character." The structure is engineered to optimize airflow for aging, and a custom art installation by Houston-based artist Jesse de Leon ties the brand's visual identity to its Texas roots.
Co-inciding with the opening is the debut of Unreined Wheated Bourbon, a 7-year blend of straight wheated bourbons distilled in both Kentucky and Texas, bottled at 104.2 proof. The product launch gives the visitor center an immediate anchor SKU to feature in its tasting program.
Food, Hospitality, and Tourism
The experiential programming extends well beyond the pour. Unreined has partnered with restaurateur John Harvey Slocum and his restaurant group to offer a farm-to-table menu featuring bison burgers and tallow fries sourced directly from WildHorse Ranch — a food-and-spirits pairing that reinforces the brand's agricultural identity. For hospitality operators, the model illustrates how craft spirits destinations can layer local food sourcing and beverage programming to drive longer guest dwell times and higher per-visit spend.
Visit College Station's Assistant Director of Tourism, Jeremiah Cook, cited the opening as generating measurable economic benefit for surrounding businesses. The rickhouse is open to the public Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. and Thursdays through Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., with offerings spanning guided tours, curated tastings, watch parties, and private event bookings.
The approach reflects a broader trend in craft spirits hospitality where distilleries function as full-service destination venues rather than simple tasting rooms. For foodservice and beverage operators watching category trends, Unreined's rickhouse-as-restaurant-and-event-venue playbook offers a compelling blueprint for monetizing a production asset across multiple revenue streams. Food & Beverage Magazine has tracked similar hybrid distillery-hospitality concepts gaining traction across the Sun Belt as consumers seek out origin-story experiences. For more on how beverage brands are reshaping hospitality venues, the category continues to evolve rapidly.
