Partnership Aligns Hotel with Mexico's Tourism Revival Plan UMusic Hospitality & Lifestyle, UN Tourism, Mexican developers Inmobilia and Thor Urbana have formed an alliance to position a new 57-key hotel and beach club as the centerpiece of Tulum Renace, the Mexican government's strategy to strengthen the historic Quintana Roo destination through cultural investment and sustainable tourism. UMusic Hotel & Beach Club Tulum is set to open in the first week of December 2026. The 800-capacity beach club will operate as a hub for concerts, live events, music and film production, and creator collaborations, with programming designed to draw visitors throughout the year and extend economic benefits across Tulum's hospitality, restaurant, retail, and tourism sectors.

Creative Infrastructure at the Property's Core The property includes dedicated recording studios, content production facilities, and collaborative creative spaces for musicians, filmmakers, producers, and digital creators. One early partnership involves Zamna, the Tulum-based electronic music platform that has become one of the world's leading brands in that genre. The initiative will be operated by UMusic Beach Clubs & Lifestyle (UMBL), a joint venture between UMusic Hospitality & Lifestyle and IMI Group, the hospitality firm behind O Beach. The partnership combines Universal Music Group's creative ecosystem with IMI Group's experience in lifestyle hospitality and entertainment.

Government Support and Economic Goals Tulum Renace, launched under President Claudia Sheinbaum's administration, aims to strengthen the destination through infrastructure investment, sustainability, expanded cultural programming, and community development. The strategy positions culture as a driver of tourism and long-term economic growth. According to Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, Secretary of Tourism for the Government of Mexico: "Tulum Renace is an initiative of President Claudia Sheinbaum aimed at fostering a more equitable, well-planned and sustainable model of tourism development, one in which the culture, creativity and talent of our communities are a fundamental part of the destination's transformation. We want tourism growth to generate shared prosperity, strengthen the local economy and translate into well-being for those who live and work in Tulum, always with respect for our natural and cultural heritage." Mara Lezama Espinosa, Governor of the State of Quintana Roo, noted: "Between jungle, sea, cenotes, and centuries of Mayan history, Tulum has built a reputation few destinations can match. Now, with UMusic Hotel joining that story, music adds one more layer to what makes it special."

International Framework and Precedent The partnership represents the first implementation in Mexico of a memorandum of understanding between UN Tourism, UMusic Hospitality & Lifestyle, and the Center for Music Ecosystems, establishing Tulum as an international model for how music and culture can drive sustainable tourism. Robert Lavia, CEO of UMusic Hospitality & Lifestyle, stated: "The destinations that leave a lasting impression aren't the ones where culture is simply experienced. They're the ones where culture is created. Tulum has always been a place that inspires artists and creators. Our role is to help amplify that spirit by creating opportunities for culture to be produced, shared and celebrated, generating lasting value for the destination and the communities that call it home." Natalia Bayona, Executive Director of UN Tourism, added: "Music has enormous power to generate employment, strengthen communities and transform destinations. Tulum represents an important example of how culture can become a sustainable driver of tourism and economic development. Moreover, the generation of this type of investment in tourism will not only help strengthen human capital development, but also the broader ecosystem surrounding the creative industries, music and innovation."

Why It Matters

For hospitality operators and tourism stakeholders, the UMusic Hotel model signals a shift toward anchor properties that function as year-round cultural catalysts rather than standalone accommodations. By integrating production facilities, live programming, and creator partnerships, the property is designed to extend visitor spend across the broader destination ecosystem—a strategy that could influence how other hotels and beach clubs position themselves within cultural tourism initiatives.
