Triumph Higher Education Group has acquired Culinary Institute of Barcelona (CIB), effective July 17, 2026, bringing the innovation-focused Spanish school into a portfolio that already includes Auguste Escoffier School of Culinary Arts and Pacific Institute of Culinary Arts in Vancouver. Financial terms were not disclosed.
The Combined Network
The deal pushes Triumph's combined annual enrollment past 8,000 students and extends its alumni community beyond 25,000, with more than 150 faculty and chef instructors now spanning North America and Europe. CIB will continue operating from its Barcelona campus with no disruption to existing programs, faculty, or industry partnerships — a deliberate move to preserve the school's distinctive methodology built around creativity, entrepreneurship, and problem-solving.
Founded in 2017, CIB has trained more than 1,300 students from more than 100 nationalities through professional diploma and specialization programs covering haute cuisine, pastry arts, kitchen leadership, and restaurant management. A significant majority of its alumni go on to launch their own food businesses, according to the company. The school holds more than 200 active internship partnerships with restaurants internationally and received nominations for Europe's Best Culinary Training Institution at the World Culinary Awards in both 2025 and 2026.
What It Means for Operators
For the broader hospitality and foodservice industry, the acquisition signals growing institutional investment in producing chef-entrepreneurs — graduates oriented toward launching concepts rather than simply filling kitchen positions. That pipeline matters to independent operators and restaurant groups alike as culinary talent competition intensifies globally.
Triumph said the deal directly supports student pathways including study-abroad experiences in Spain, expanded online learning, and shared access to a global faculty of chef instructors and industry experts — resources that could shape the next generation of hospitality professionals entering the workforce. Operators tracking culinary education and workforce trends will recognize the strategic logic: Barcelona ranks among the world's foremost culinary destinations, and Spain's gastronomy and culinary tourism sectors continue to attract talent and investment.
"CIB's approach to culinary education, built on creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship, is a natural fit with the Triumph family and with Escoffier's blend of professional culinary arts and contemporary business training," said Jack Larson, chairman, CEO and president of Triumph Higher Education Group. Auguste Escoffier School of Culinary Arts, Triumph's flagship U.S. brand, is the largest culinary school in the country by student population.
Josep Gala Micó, co-founder and president of CIB, framed the deal as a platform for scaling the school's chef-entrepreneur mission internationally. "Our students, faculty and alumni will keep the methodology and identity that define CIB in Barcelona, while gaining access to expanded resources, employer networks and career pathways that reach across North America and beyond," he said.
Beyond the Classroom
CIB also operates two innovation arms — openCIB, which delivers creativity and innovation training for organizations, and CIBlab, which develops new food products and concepts for the food industry — that could offer Triumph's wider network applied R&D capabilities beyond traditional culinary instruction. For foodservice operators and food businesses exploring culinary innovation and product development, those capabilities represent a potentially valuable external resource as the school integrates into Triumph's global structure.
