Foodservice operators have rated TOPPAN Packaging the top supplier for both product quality and value for money among eight major competitors, according to an independent study by market research firm Technomic. The commissioned survey — Study #20371, conducted in April 2026 — drew responses from operators currently purchasing from each evaluated supplier, making it a direct measure of active customer satisfaction rather than unaided brand awareness.
In the final rankings, TOPPAN Packaging posted a two-percentage-point lead over the second-place supplier in product quality and a five-percentage-point lead in value for money. The sample for TOPPAN included 66 current customers.
What Operators Are Saying
"This recognition is especially meaningful because it comes directly from customers who purchase and use our products every day," said Ron Milz, President & CEO of TOPPAN Packaging. "Delivering quality packaging solutions is essential, but equally important is helping customers achieve reliability, operational performance and long-term value."
Chief Technology Officer Laura Buen Abad framed the results against the broader cost pressures reshaping foodservice procurement. "As foodservice operators continue facing pressures related to labor, sustainability and operating costs, packaging must deliver more than product containment," she said. "It must simplify operations, protect product quality, enhance the consumer experience and create value across the supply chain."
Portfolio and Market Reach
TOPPAN Packaging supplies a broad range of formats relevant to foodservice operators, including portion-control packaging, lidding films, CPET trays and containers, pouches, rollstock, and sustainable packaging solutions, along with custom tooling and heat-sealing equipment. Its customer base spans quick-service restaurants, convenience retail, healthcare dining, higher education, hospitality, and entertainment venues — essentially the full spectrum of non-commercial and commercial foodservice.
The company positions itself as a domestic manufacturer with global innovation capabilities through its parent, TOPPAN Group. That combination of local production and engineering depth is increasingly attractive to operators navigating supply chain volatility in foodservice and seeking to reduce lead times and freight exposure.
For procurement and operations teams tracking packaging trends across the food and beverage supply chain, the Technomic results are notable precisely because the methodology screened for current buyers. A high satisfaction score among existing customers carries more weight operationally than a broad awareness ranking — it signals that performance holds up under real-world conditions, not just in sales presentations.
The findings arrive at a moment when packaging specifications are under greater scrutiny. Labor-saving features, sustainability credentials, and total cost of ownership have all moved up the priority list for foodservice operators managing tighter margins. TOPPAN's top score in value — a metric that folds in price relative to performance — suggests operators see tangible return from the supplier relationship, not just acceptable product.
