[Subway is repositioning its National Sandwich Day marketing window, moving the celebration from Nov. 3 to Tuesday, Oct. 27 — one week ahead of midterm Election Day — and anchoring the push with the return of the Fritos® Chicken Enchilada Sub, a menu item that last appeared in 2014. The move is designed to give the promotional moment its own cultural space rather than compete with election-day noise, and it gives franchisees a longer sales runway: the offers run through Nov. 8.
What's on the Menu
The Fritos® Chicken Enchilada Sub layers rotisserie-style chicken marinated in enchilada sauce with Fritos corn chips, smoky Baja Chipotle sauce, Monterey Cheddar cheese, shredded lettuce, tomatoes, and red onions. "The enchilada sauce brings depth, the chipotle adds a little heat and the Fritos® deliver that signature crunch," said Chef Paul Fabre, SVP of Culinary Innovation at Subway. Alongside the sub, the Caramel Apple Cookie — last offered in 2021 — returns for a limited time, featuring apple pieces, caramel chips, salted caramel crunch, and a caramel icing drizzle.
The Loyalty Play
The centerpiece of the promotional strategy is a Footlong BOGO offer exclusive to Sub Club members, available Oct. 27 through Nov. 8 on app and online orders at participating U.S. restaurants. The deal is automatically loaded into members' in-app wallets, a mechanic that reinforces digital ordering adoption and loyalty enrollment simultaneously — both persistent priorities across the quick-service restaurant segment. New members can join Sub Club through the Subway app or Subway.com to qualify.
"We weren't going to let National Sandwich Day become an afterthought," said Jeff Klein, Chief Marketing Officer at Subway. "So, we're giving sandwiches their own day in the spotlight, one week early."
Brand Platform Connection
The promotion extends Subway's Feed Your SUBconscious™ brand platform, launched in September, which uses actor and comedian Will Arnett as a comedic inner voice nudging consumers toward the chain. The limited-time menu strategy — leaning on nostalgia-driven LTOs with a CPG co-brand — reflects a broader industry pattern of QSRs using ingredient partnerships and flavor comebacks to generate earned media and drive app engagement without heavy discounting across the full menu.
For operators and franchisees tracking limited-time offer strategy in foodservice, the Subway approach underscores how date-shifting a national food holiday can extend a promotional arc while preserving margin through a loyalty-gated BOGO rather than a chainwide price cut. The Fritos tie-in, sourced through PepsiCo's snack portfolio, also signals the continued strength of QSR-CPG co-branding as a menu differentiation tool.
