Spread Bagelry has promoted John Gonzalez to Chief Operating Officer, a move that reflects the bagel chain's expansion across the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast. Gonzalez, who joined the company in December 2025, will oversee operational execution across all locations and mentor future leaders as the brand scales.

The Philadelphia-born chain currently operates 17 locations across four states.

Focus on Consistency and Scale

As COO, Gonzalez will prioritize operational consistency and guest experience while the company pursues an ambitious growth trajectory. CEO Tom Selementi said Gonzalez has "consistently demonstrated the leadership, discipline, and commitment to excellence that define our culture."

Expansion Timeline

The promotion arrives as Spread Bagelry continues its East Coast push. The chain opened a location in Atlanta in April 2026 and plans additional Southeast openings to maintain consistency and quality standards. Management has set a target of 35 locations by the end of 2028.

Spread Bagelry operates kettle-boiled bagels made in wood-fired ovens, along with breakfast and lunch sandwiches, house-made spreads, and specialty coffee. The chain was founded in Philadelphia in 2010.

Why It Matters

With aggressive expansion plans and a new COO tasked with scaling operations, Spread Bagelry is signaling operational maturity in a crowded bagel category.
