Starting October 27, Smoothie King will roll out two limited-time items inspired by the Dot Cake, a sprinkle-covered treat that dominated social feeds throughout 2026: a Dot Cake Protein Smoothie and a Dot Cake Protein Toast, available at participating locations while supplies last.
The Products
The Dot Cake Protein Smoothie blends bananas with Smoothie King's Slim-N-Trim™ Blend to deliver 13 grams of protein, finished with Supernatural Rainbow Nonpareils Sprinkles — an artificial color-free topping chosen to align with the brand's clean-ingredient standards. The Dot Cake Protein Toast builds on the chain's Power Eats Menu platform, offering guests a choice of chocolate hazelnut or peanut butter spread on multigrain bread for 11 or more grams of protein, topped with the same sprinkles. Guests can order either item individually or pair them for a fuller experience.
The use of artificial color-free sprinkles is a deliberate product-development decision, not just a marketing note. As better-for-you snacking and beverage trends continue to reshape consumer expectations across foodservice, operators are under pressure to deliver on both indulgence and ingredient transparency simultaneously — a balancing act Smoothie King is leaning into directly.
Why It Matters for Operators
"We're always looking for ways to tap into what consumers are excited about and put a uniquely Smoothie King spin on it," said Lori Primavera, Vice President of RD & Product Marketing at Smoothie King. "Dot Cake was the perfect opportunity to take a viral food moment and turn it into something colorful, craveable and protein-packed."
The LTO strategy reflects a broader playbook gaining traction across fast-casual and smoothie-bar concepts: identify a high-velocity social food trend, engineer a nutritionally differentiated version, and deploy it quickly before the cultural moment fades. For multi-unit franchisees, trend-reactive LTOs can drive incremental traffic and social engagement without requiring permanent menu restructuring — a meaningful advantage in a competitive daypart.
Smothie King's move also underscores how health-focused restaurant concepts are increasingly functioning as product-development platforms, marrying 50-plus years of nutritional expertise — the brand was founded in 1973 — with real-time cultural listening. The chain introduced its Power Eats Menu in 2025, its first nationwide food rollout, which went on to earn Nation's Restaurant News' MenuMasters Healthful Innovation award in 2026. The Dot Cake items extend that food platform into seasonal, culturally resonant territory.
With more than 1,200 units nationwide, Smoothie King has the footprint to give a limited-time viral-inspired item genuine scale. Availability is confirmed at participating locations, and the brand has not disclosed whether a national rollout or extended run is planned beyond the initial while-supplies-last window.
