A new beverage-brand collaboration is hitting fast-casual menus this fall: Slim Chickens has partnered with Dr Pepper to launch Dr Pepper Blasted Tenders, Tender Bites and Wings at all domestic locations beginning September 14 through November 16, with no price increase to guests.

The product is built around a proprietary dry seasoning blend — not a sauce, brine, or marinade — applied by hand after the chicken exits the fryer. The approach keeps the hand-breaded coating intact while delivering what the brand describes as a sweet and savory flavor profile drawn from Dr Pepper's signature blend of 23 flavors.

The Flavor Strategy

"We don't add flavors to our tenders lightly — tenders and sauce are the whole reason people know us," said Patrick Noone, chief marketing officer at Slim Chickens. "Dr Pepper Blasted cleared that bar. It is bold, it is unmistakable, and the only place in the country you can get it is at Slim Chickens." The exclusivity angle is intentional: positioning the LTO as a chain-specific item unavailable anywhere else reinforces trial and drives traffic during a high-visibility seasonal window.

For fast-casual operators watching limited-time offer strategy, the mechanics here are worth noting. A post-fry dry rub requires no changes to cooking equipment or protein sourcing, lowers execution risk in the kitchen, and slots cleanly into existing menu architecture. Slim Chickens frames the offering within its "Whatcha Pickin'?" customization platform, so it functions as an add-on choice rather than a menu overhaul.

Football Season as a Launch Vehicle

The September-to-November window is deliberate. Slim Chickens was founded in Fayetteville, Arkansas — a college-football market — and Dr Pepper has long cultivated ties to college football fandom. Trish Riddle, Senior Vice President of Foodservice at Keurig Dr Pepper, called the timing ideal: "There's no better time to introduce it than during football season, when fans are gathering for tailgates, watch parties and game-day traditions built around great food, great company and an ice-cold Dr Pepper."

The collaboration reflects a broader trend in beverage-foodservice co-branding, where beverage companies leverage foodservice partners to move flavor innovation beyond the bottle. For Keurig Dr Pepper, a foodservice deal with a 300-plus-unit fast-casual chain offers reach into a younger, experience-oriented consumer base that frequents better-chicken concepts. For Slim Chickens, the partnership adds marketing muscle and brand equity from one of the country's most recognized soft drink labels without requiring a permanent menu commitment.

The chain, which opened in 2003 and now operates in 34 U.S. states as well as international markets including the U.K., Germany, Turkey and Malaysia, has publicly targeted growth beyond 600 restaurants over the next decade. LTO programs that generate buzz during high-traffic seasons are a proven mechanism for franchisees to build check averages and trial among new guests — both metrics that matter as the brand scales. Operators and franchisees in the better-chicken segment will be watching whether the Dr Pepper Blasted line drives measurable comp-sales lift before the November 16 sunset.
