Shipley Do-Nuts is bringing back its annual Donut Dash charity race on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2026, at Sam Houston Race Park in Houston, with registration now open and proceeds again benefiting Kids' Meals, the local nonprofit that delivers free meals daily to food-insecure preschoolers across Greater Houston.

The event offers a 10K (7 a.m. start), a 5K (8 a.m.), and a kids dash (9:45 a.m.), with all participants receiving a donut-themed race shirt, a new finisher medal, and complimentary donuts. Runners will find Shipley donuts and mini kolaches along the course and at the finish line, plus the chain's new cold brew coffee during post-race festivities.

Growing the Impact

Last year's Donut Dash drew a record 1,500-plus participants, and Shipley CEO Flynn Dekker said the 2026 edition is designed to build on that momentum. "What started as a fun, community race has quickly evolved into a meaningful event rallying our hometown around the fight against food insecurity," Dekker said. Kids' Meals CEO Beth Braniff Harp noted that the nonprofit delivers free, healthy meals to more than 13,000 food-insecure, preschool-aged children across Greater Houston every weekday, and that every $2 donated funds one meal.

Shipley and event co-producer Adrenaline Special Events will donate a portion of all registration fees directly to Kids' Meals. Those unable to race can contribute through a direct donation link on the Kids' Meals site.

Brand and Franchise Context

Founded in Houston in 1936, Shipley Do-Nuts operates more than 390 franchised and company-owned locations across 13 states, making it one of the larger QSR donut-and-kolache concepts in the country. The brand ranks No. 134 on Entrepreneur's Franchise 500 for 2026 and No. 142 on the Technomic Top 500. Community-oriented activations like the Donut Dash serve a dual purpose for franchise-heavy chains: generating local goodwill while reinforcing brand identity in a competitive QSR breakfast and snack daypart environment where differentiation increasingly depends on storytelling beyond the product itself.

For operators watching how regional chains leverage cause marketing, the Donut Dash model — pairing a branded experiential event with a measurable charitable outcome — mirrors a broader trend in restaurant community engagement that has gained traction as chains seek to deepen roots in home markets.
