Napa Valley's Sequoia Grove Winery is pushing wine into football-season programming with "Game Day, Elevated," a curated collection of chef-crafted recipes and pairings built around its nationally distributed portfolio — including a milestone first: the 2025 Sauvignon Blanc, now available nationwide for the first time in the winery's nearly 50-year history.

The initiative arrives as the beverage industry increasingly courts the sports-viewing occasion, a traditionally beer-dominated social ritual that premium wine producers have been working to reclaim. Sequoia Grove's entry pairs four make-ahead appetizers — developed by Executive Chef Bryce Palmer — with its Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, and Cabernet Sauvignon, all distributed nationally through Kobrand Fine Wine and Spirits.

The Menu

Chef Palmer's four-dish lineup leans into approachable technique and elevated ingredients without demanding professional kitchen equipment. Rockfish Ceviche Tostadas with mango, avocado, and leche de tigre pair with the 2025 Sauvignon Blanc. Shrimp Rolls on homemade brioche slider buns with garlic-lemon aioli are matched with the Chardonnay. Duck Confit Tacos with house-made crème fraîche, pickled shallots, and cotija, and Brioche Burgers featuring chuck–short rib patties with pimento cheese, both anchor the Cabernet Sauvignon pairings. "Our goal was to create appetizers that feel special without requiring a professional kitchen. This is the kind of food that can largely be made ahead of time, so the host actually gets to watch the game," Palmer said.

For on-premise operators and hospitality professionals, the program offers a useful framework: wine-pairing occasions don't have to be formal. The make-ahead, shareable format maps cleanly onto bar menus, private dining buyouts, or wine bar programming tied to live sports events — categories seeing renewed beverage programming investment across casual and upscale-casual segments.

Why the Sauvignon Blanc Matters

The national launch of the 2025 Sauvignon Blanc is the more consequential news for trade buyers and sommeliers. Founded in 1979, Sequoia Grove built its reputation on Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon, farming nearly 120 acres across its home estate and vineyard holdings that include Tonella Estate, Mt. Veeder, and the Yountville–State Lane property. Expanding the nationally distributed lineup to include a bright, food-driven white variety meaningfully broadens the brand's on-premise placement options — particularly for by-the-glass programs where food-friendly whites consistently outperform heavier reds in warmer months and high-volume settings.

The move also reflects a broader pattern in Napa, where established Cabernet-focused houses are diversifying into white varieties to capture year-round velocity at retail and in restaurant wine programs that increasingly prioritize versatility over prestige positioning alone. As a Certified Napa Green Winery, Sequoia Grove also carries sustainability credentials that resonate with a growing share of on-premise buyers making sourcing decisions on environmental as well as flavor grounds.
