Second Nature Brands (SNB) has agreed to acquire Tillamook Country Smoker from Insignia Capital Group and family shareholders, the Chicago-based company confirmed June 8. The deal represents SNB's first entry into the protein snacks category and signals a deliberate push to broaden its footprint in the fast-growing better-for-you snacking space.
For foodservice and hospitality operators, the acquisition is worth watching. Protein-forward snacks have been steadily migrating from retail shelves into hotel grab-and-go cases, airport concessions, and convenience-oriented restaurant formats. Tillamook Country Smoker's smoked sausages and meat snack lineup — including a zero-sugar SKU — fit squarely into the high-protein, low-sugar demand curve that snack-focused restaurant and hospitality buyers have been navigating for the past several years.
SNB's existing portfolio already carries significant name recognition in foodservice-adjacent channels. Brands like Kar's Nuts, Sahale Snacks, Second Nature Snacks, Sanders, Brownie Brittle, and Voortman collectively give the company a multi-category presence in snacking occasions — from premium nut blends to indulgent confections. Adding a protein snack brand rounds out that range and positions SNB to offer broader assortments to multi-unit buyers and hospitality procurement teams.
The protein snacks segment has attracted sustained investor attention as consumers increasingly prioritize satiating, on-the-go options with cleaner ingredient profiles. Tillamook Country Smoker, based in the Pacific Northwest, has built a reputation for smoked meat products that emphasize craft-style production — an attribute that resonates in hospitality settings where provenance and quality cues matter to guests. Operators looking to differentiate grab-and-go or amenity offerings may find the brand's positioning a natural fit alongside existing premium beverage and snack program trends already reshaping hotel and travel dining.
Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Food & Beverage Magazine will continue to track the deal's implications across retail and foodservice channels as it moves toward close.
