Beast Philanthropy and The Rockefeller Foundation are moving their strategic partnership from commitment to action, launching regenerative school meal (RSM) programs in Ghana's Eastern Region and Kenya's Bomet County that will deliver locally sourced lunches to approximately 4,000 children five days a week over the next five years.

The initiative—unveiled ahead of the United Nations General Assembly—positions local farmers as the backbone of each program's supply chain, sourcing ingredients through agricultural practices designed to improve soil health and community resilience. That farm-to-school model has direct relevance for food and beverage operators watching regenerative sourcing scale beyond high-end restaurant menus and into institutional foodservice contexts worldwide.

The Programs on the Ground

In Ghana, the partnership is working with CARE, Fairtrade Africa, West Akyem Co-operative Cocoa Farmers and Marketing Union, and Gold Coast Nutrition Fund to expand agroforestry among local cocoa farmers using intercropping techniques. Meals will initially reach ten schools serving nine communities, with school gardens introduced as the program scales. The Rockefeller Foundation's partner, the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet, will explore providing reliable electricity access for meal preparation at compatible sites.

In Kenya, the focus is on southwestern Kenya's arid landscape, where the program will establish school gardens as nutrition and regenerative-agriculture learning centers. Local fortified bean producers—connected through The Rockefeller Foundation's existing relationship with AGRA—will feed directly into school meal supply chains. Clean-cooking infrastructure is already being deployed: a hybrid solar-electric cooking system from youth-led company Ecobora is operational in one school, while a BURN Manufacturing clean cookstove powered by farm-waste briquettes is running in another, reducing dependence on traditional fuels that contribute to indoor air pollution and deforestation.

Why It Matters for Food Systems

The Rockefeller Foundation has committed more than $6.75 million over the past five years to school meal programs in Ghana and Kenya. Beast Philanthropy, founded by Jimmy Donaldson—known publicly as MrBeast—brings storytelling reach across a global audience of more than 900 million followers, with plans to document the program's progress and broadcast results widely.

"Partnering with The Rockefeller Foundation to provide nutritious, locally grown meals to these kids is a total game-changer," said Jimmy Donaldson, founder of Beast Philanthropy. "We're not just feeding thousands of students, we're helping local farmers and keeping kids healthy in a sustainable way."

Dr. Rajiv J. Shah, President of The Rockefeller Foundation, framed the partnership as a convergence of institutional food-systems expertise with a modern content platform capable of driving public engagement and donor action at scale.

For foodservice professionals tracking regenerative agriculture's expanding role in institutional supply chains, the Ghana and Kenya programs offer a live case study in how farm-direct sourcing, clean-cooking technology, and community ownership can be layered into a functioning school meal operation—a model that advocates argue is replicable across Sub-Saharan Africa and beyond. Operators involved in global food procurement and sustainability strategy will find the supply-chain architecture here instructive, particularly the direct linkage between smallholder farmers and institutional buyers that bypasses conventional commodity channels.
