Four limited-time fall offerings are now on the menu at Rita's Italian Ice & Frozen Custard, the world's largest Italian Ice concept with more than 600 locations, as the brand leans into the annual pumpkin-season surge with a lineup designed to drive incremental visits and app-based loyalty engagement.
The Fall Lineup
The seasonal menu centers on two flavor platforms — Pumpkin and Apple Butter — deployed across four distinct formats. The Pumpkin Frozen Coffee blends Rita's signature frozen coffee base with pumpkin crème and whipped cream, while the Pumpkin Pie Concrete combines Vanilla Frozen Custard with pumpkin crème and vanilla wafers. On the apple side, the Apple Butter Milkshake layers Vanilla Frozen Custard with Apple Butter flavor, whipped cream, and a cherry; the Apple Butter Concrete adds vanilla wafers and apple pie topping for a spoonable, dessert-forward option. All four items are available for a limited time.
For multi-unit operators and franchisees in the frozen dessert and specialty beverage space, the move is a textbook execution of seasonal LTO strategy: repeat fan-favorite flavor profiles, stretch them across multiple dayparts and format types, and tie the promotion to a loyalty mechanic. Carmela Hughley, Senior VP of Marketing Insights & Innovation at Rita's, framed the return as a response to measurable guest demand. "For so many of our guests, the first taste of pumpkin is when fall officially begins," Hughley said. "There's a reason pumpkin season has become a celebration of its own, and at Rita's, we're all in."
Loyalty and App Tie-In
Beyond the menu itself, Rita's is using the seasonal launch to accelerate adoption of its Rita's Ice app. New loyalty members who sign up and complete a first purchase receive one free small Ice, Custard, or Gelati — a standard acquisition incentive, but one timed strategically to coincide with heightened seasonal traffic. The rewards program also offers birthday perks and exclusive in-app offers, giving operators a direct channel to communicate future LTOs and promotions without relying solely on in-store signage.
The pumpkin LTO phenomenon has reshaped fall marketing calendars across foodservice over the past decade, and frozen-treat concepts are increasingly competing for a share of that seasonal attention alongside coffee chains and QSR players. For restaurant operators tracking LTO performance and seasonal menu trends, Rita's approach — pairing a proven flavor with multiple SKU formats — reduces development risk while maximizing menu real estate and the potential for guest upsell. With Italian Ice made fresh daily on-site from a rotating roster of more than 80 flavors, the brand's operational model is well-suited to absorb short-run seasonal additions without significant back-of-house disruption.
