Minneapolis-based Rise Baking Company has closed its acquisition of Jimmy's Gourmet Bakery, adding more than 350,000 square feet of Northeast manufacturing capacity and deepening its cookie and artisan bread capabilities for retail and foodservice customers nationwide.

Why Operators Should Notice

For in-store bakery buyers and foodservice operators who source thaw-and-sell baked goods, the deal matters because it consolidates two significant private-label and branded suppliers under a single platform. Jimmy's has operated for more than 40 years as a specialist in thaw-and-sell products, serving both retail and foodservice channels. Its portfolio spans the Jimmy's Cookies brand, the King Krumb Cookie line, and Ecce Panis artisan breads — categories that sit squarely in the high-velocity grab-and-go and artisan bread segments driving in-store bakery traffic at grocery chains and foodservice outlets alike.

Rise CEO Mark McNeil pointed to culture and talent as the core rationale. "What makes this acquisition special is the people," he said. "Jimmy's has built an outstanding team, a strong culture and a reputation for delivering innovative products and service. Together, we'll build on that foundation as we continue investing in our customers, our people, and the future of our business."

Integration on a Deliberate Timeline

Jimmy's will continue to operate independently in the near term while both companies work through integration planning. Howard Hirsch, CEO of Jimmy's, framed the deal as a platform for growth rather than a consolidation play: "This acquisition allows us to build on that legacy while creating new opportunities for our employees, partners and customers." Jimmy's President Michael Pisani added that access to Rise's resources will support expanded innovation and service capacity.

That approach — keeping an acquired brand operationally distinct during a transition period — is increasingly standard in bakery and foodservice M&A, where customer relationships and proprietary formulations are as valuable as the physical plant. Rise has assembled a portfolio that already includes Brill, Table Talk, South Coast Baking, Best Maid, Henry & Henry, and Bakestone Brothers, among others, giving it broad coverage across cakes, cookies, muffins, pies, and icings for national grocery chains, convenience stores, QSRs, and mass merchandisers.

Northeast Footprint Is the Strategic Prize

Three manufacturing facilities totaling more than 350,000 square feet represent a meaningful addition to Rise's production network, and their Northeast location gives the Minneapolis-headquartered company improved proximity to a dense cluster of retail and foodservice distribution hubs. Baked goods — particularly artisan and thaw-and-sell categories — are logistics-sensitive, and regional manufacturing helps suppliers compete on freshness and delivery economics.

The acquisition is consistent with Rise's stated strategy of targeting complementary capabilities rather than pure scale, and the addition of a 40-year-old specialty cookie and artisan bread operator fills two category gaps in the existing portfolio. For operators evaluating supplier consolidation or private-label sourcing, Rise's expanded network signals greater one-stop-shop leverage across both branded and white-label bakery SKUs.
