The California Milk Advisory Board (CMAB) has named 15 companies to its 2026 Real California Milk (RCM) Excelerator, the program's eighth annual cohort and its first to formally split participants into separate growth-stage and early-stage tracks. Alumni of the program have collectively generated nearly $60 million in brand sales for the dairy category since 2021, with past winners such as Petit Pot and Smearcase going on to reshape their respective dairy segments.

The 2026 Cohort

Eight companies make up the growth-stage Excelerator track, reflecting four macro-trends Innova Market Insights has identified as key drivers of dairy innovation in 2026: functionality, gut health, protein, convenience, and occasion-driven formats. The lineup spans a striking range of concepts. Leo Leo Gelato brings small-batch sea salt caramel gelato cookie sandwiches from California's Central Coast; Life Raft Treats markets ice cream bars shaped like fried chicken drumsticks under its Not Fried Chicken Ice Cream brand; and Maazah offers Afghan yogurt dips built around Middle Eastern flavor profiles. RoseBud Ice Cream targets on-the-go consumers with parlor-quality soft serve in a mess-free pouch, while Secret Creamery layers a four-strain probiotic mix into a super-premium, AAPI-influenced frozen line. Rounding out the growth track: a high-protein, extended-shelf-life drinkable yogurt from Hartman Strawberry/Acai Protein Drink; Tulsi Foods, a clean-label paneer brand targeting both ethnic and mainstream dairy sets; and Yah Yah Yah, a Middle Eastern-inspired RTD iced latte with 5g of prebiotic fiber per serving.

Seven companies fill the earlier-stage incubator track: Yaza Foods, Freezcake Snacks, Teiny, Mac Squares, Kadak, Spun, and Monava. Their concepts range from labneh and freeze-dried cheesecake to cottage cheese-based snacks, frozen mac and cheese, a ready-to-drink protein chai, cultured dairy-based ice cream, and an RTD latte targeted at healthcare workers.

What the Program Delivers

Both tracks provide access to mentorship, programming, and stipends. The Excelerator track culminates in December at a pitch event in San Luis Obispo, Calif., where a live judging panel will select four finalists, each receiving $30,000 in marketing support. Those four brands will then compete over a 12-month in-market performance window for a $100,000 grand prize to be awarded in 2027. The same December event will reveal which brand from the 2025 cohort takes home that year's $100,000 prize.

"We're doubling down on commercialization, helping companies using the Real California Milk seal to scale their businesses, strengthen their path to market and navigate an increasingly challenging CPG environment," said Bob Carroll, CEO of the CMAB. Fred Schonenberg, Founder and CEO of VentureFuel—the CMAB's program partner—framed the 2026 edition as a "Commercialization Engine for Value-Added Dairy Innovation," emphasizing measurable pathways to retail shelf placement and sustained consumer demand.

For foodservice and retail operators tracking dairy innovation trends, the cohort signals continued momentum around global flavor profiles—particularly Middle Eastern and East Asian influences—alongside functional dairy formats that blend protein and gut-health claims with convenience packaging. Those same themes are reshaping the broader beverage and dairy category as brands compete for refrigerated shelf space and on-menu placement across channels.
