Two New Dining Venues Debut at Grand Central This Fall Osteria Centrale and Mercato Centrale will open this fall at Grand Central Terminal, marking the latest addition to the transit hub's dining portfolio. Design and Vision Both concepts were designed by Rockwell Group, the architecture and design firm behind the Terminal's Grand Brasserie. According to David Rockwell, founder and president of Rockwell Group: "We are thrilled to partner again with Vizz Group to bring celebration and community to Grand Central, one of my favorite places in New York. Centrale was inspired by an Italian spritz garden: We wanted to transport busy commuters to an uplifting space where lingering, connecting, and catching up isn't just encouraged, it's embedded in the culture. Our design is defined by a colorful palette of amber, cherry red, and capri blue accentuated by bold, swirling patterns and textured materials like ribbed glass, porcelain tile, and leather upholstery. Meaningful details connect the restaurant and market to the history of New York and the Terminal itself, grounding visitors in the surrounding city." Guillaume Thivet, executive chef at Grand Brasserie, will serve as chef for Osteria Centrale.
Why It Matters
The addition of two distinct concepts—one positioned for lingering diners and one for commuters—reflects broader foodservice strategies at transit hubs to capture multiple dayparts and customer segments. With over 750,000 daily commuters passing through Grand Central, these venues target both time-constrained travelers and those seeking full dining experiences.
