Bimbo Bakeries USA has officially unified its Arnold and Brownberry bread lines under the Oroweat banner, completing a national rebrand that took effect October 12 and gives foodservice buyers and grocery retailers a single coast-to-coast brand identity across more than 86 SKUs.
The Portfolio Shift
The consolidation is more than a label swap. Leslie Vesper, senior vice president of marketing at Bimbo USA, called it "one of the largest marketing investments in the brand's history" and framed the change as a product upgrade: whole grains SKUs are being reformulated to increase fiber content, Country Style products are gaining added vitamin D, and the broader line is undergoing ongoing recipe simplification. The combined portfolio spans Whole Grains (including 100% Whole Wheat, Oatnut, 12 Grains & Seeds, and 22 Grains & Seeds), Functional Nutrition (Protein White, Honey Oat Protein, Fiber Power, Keto, Carb Control), Country Style, Italian, Rye, and Buns & Rolls — a range broad enough to cover most sandwich and bread programs for operators sourcing through retail or wholesale channels.
For grocery retailers and foodservice distributors managing planograms and ordering systems, the transition means reconciling familiar regional SKUs — Arnold in the East, Brownberry in the Midwest — into a unified national item set. Bimbo USA has acknowledged that availability may vary by retailer during the transition window, a detail worth tracking for operators who rely on specific product specs.
NYC Activation and Consumer Push
To drive awareness of the rebrand among consumers, Bimbo USA launched a "Get that bread" campaign anchored by a New York City stunt timed to marathon weekend. A life-sized running sandwich appeared on city streets October 30–31, with clues distributed via social media and the running platform Strava. Marathon runner and actor Dylan Efron fronted the activation, and a pop-up Marathon Market ran November 1 at the High Line Nine venue. Fans who scanned QR codes at either the street activation or the pop-up could enter a sweepstakes for a $50,000 prize; the contest was also open nationally at OroweatGetThatBread.com through November 1.
"For more than 90 years, Oroweat has been baking bread with premium, quality ingredients for people who want more from their everyday loaf without sacrificing taste," said Orela Suku DeCurtis, director of marketing for Oroweat at Bimbo Bakeries USA. "'Get that bread' is our way of reminding everyone that loving bread is nothing to apologize for."
What It Means for Operators
The rebrand reflects a broader industry push toward brand simplification and functional ingredient claims — a trend well documented in restaurant and foodservice industry analysis. Protein-forward and high-fiber breads have gained traction on menus as operators respond to guests seeking better-for-you options without sacrificing satisfaction. Oroweat's Honey Oat Protein, for example, delivers 20 grams of protein per two slices, a spec that could support menu callouts at sandwich concepts, cafes, and health-focused fast-casual outlets.
For retail grocery buyers, consolidating three regional brands into one national brand simplifies category management and could improve shelf space negotiations. Bread and bakery category coverage has tracked growing consumer preference for transparent ingredient lists, and Bimbo USA's recipe clean-up initiative aligns the Oroweat line with that expectation.
Bimbo USA operates more than 50 U.S. manufacturing locations and employs over 20,000 associates. Its parent, Mexico's Grupo Bimbo, is the world's largest baking company, with operations in 39 countries — giving the Oroweat rebrand significant supply-chain and distribution weight behind it.
