Mondelez International is giving retail buyers and snack-category managers something to watch this fall: OREO is simultaneously dropping three limited-edition flavors — Banana Pudding, Deep Fried, and Chicken & Waffles — and letting consumers vote on which one returns to shelves in 2027. It is the first time the brand has used a live fan vote to drive an actual product-line decision.

All three SKUs hit U.S. grocery and retail stores nationwide on Aug. 24, with presale and TikTok Shop availability beginning Aug. 17. The voting window runs Aug. 17 through Oct. 12, with the winning flavor announced Oct. 13.

What's on the Shelf

The three contenders span a wide flavor arc, a deliberate move the brand says reflects where snacking culture is heading. OREO Banana Pudding Cookies layer sweet banana and vanilla pudding creme between vanilla wafer cookies. OREO Deep Fried Cookies replicate the county-fair staple with fried dough-flavored cookies and a dark chocolate and fried dough creme. OREO Chicken & Waffles Cookies — the most unconventional entry — feature a waffle-textured embossment and a dual-layered creme delivering sweet and savory notes meant to evoke fried chicken with maple syrup.

Rohit Sakhamuri, Senior Brand Manager for OREO Innovation, said the trio emerged from more than a year of R&D rooted in the brand's own snacking research. The 2026 Mondelez State of Snacking report identified "delicious," "fun," and "tasty" as leading drivers in social snacking conversations, informing the flavor strategy. "We tasked our team with simultaneously developing three unique flavors based on today's evolving snacking trends," Sakhamuri said.

Why Operators Should Take Note

For foodservice and retail operators, the campaign is as instructive as the products themselves. By launching three distinct SKUs at once and building a structured consumer vote into the release, Mondelez is turning a standard limited-time offering into an ongoing engagement loop — one that keeps the brand in social conversation from August through October and creates a built-in news event at the winner announcement. The mechanics are straightforward: shoppers scan a QR code on pack or visit OREO.com/twist-lick-vote, cast a vote, and are automatically entered into a sweepstakes for a year's supply of original OREO cookies.

Matt Foley, Vice President of OREO, framed the campaign as a shift from one-way product drops toward a "dynamic, two-way conversation" with the brand's community. That framing carries real implications for snack and confection category strategy at the retail and foodservice levels: fan-driven product decisions can generate durable earned media and deepen brand loyalty in ways a standard promotional window cannot.

The campaign also signals the growing role of social commerce in CPG launches. Pre-release availability on SnackWorks' TikTok Shop storefront — in limited quantities — gives Mondelez a controlled early-access channel that rewards engaged fans while building anticipation ahead of the Aug. 24 mass retail rollout. For buyers tracking emerging retail and digital sales channels, the move underscores how established snack brands are weaving social platforms directly into their distribution strategy rather than treating them as afterthought marketing.

All three flavors are available for a limited time, while supplies last. The winning flavor will return for a limited run in 2027. Our colleagues at Food & Beverage Magazine have been tracking Mondelez's broader flavor innovation pipeline across its snacking portfolio.
