Historic Drinks, Carnival Spirit Cure, New Orleans' acclaimed cocktail bar led by Neal Bodenheimer, is preparing its seasonal Mardi Gras menu ahead of the 2027 Carnival season. The bar has become known for its approach to Carnival season, which pairs historic New Orleans drinks with parade-ready cocktails and riffs on local classics. Last year's lineup included Neal's Mardi Gras Punch, Ojen, Absinthe Suissesse, Old Hickory, Roffignac, State Street, and the Obituary Cocktail—a mix of established New Orleans drinks and contemporary interpretations.

A Parade-Ready Pour Neal's Mardi Gras Punch, made with overproof rum, red wine, fresh lemon and lime juice, and Angostura bitters, was "designed as the ultimate parade-route sip," according to the bar. The Ojen Cocktail offered what the bar describes as "a frozen, pink-hued take on the Carnival season," and is noted as a difficult-to-find New Orleans classic. The Absinthe Suissesse holds particular significance for Bodenheimer, who "recalls making rounds of the anisey, eggnog-like drink for his team at Bellocq on Mardi Gras mornings."

2027 Updates Expected While Cure has not yet announced specific 2027 menu details, the bar is expected to unveil new offerings as Carnival approaches. The bar's commitment to seasonal, tradition-focused cocktail programming reflects broader interest among high-volume New Orleans establishments in deepening connections to local Carnival culture and heritage drinks.

Why It Matters

For operators in seasonal or event-driven markets, Cure's approach demonstrates how limited-time menus can drive traffic and cultural relevance while celebrating local heritage. The bar's year-to-year evolution of a single seasonal program also shows how consistency in concept can build anticipation and press momentum for predictable occasions.
