Natural Grocers has opened its 71st anniversary season with a $71,000 product donation to Food Bank of the Rockies, co-executed with Colorado-based functional soda startup Pop Your Vitamins. The donation includes thousands of trail mixes, nuts, seeds and grab-and-go snacks from Natural Grocers alongside more than 20,000 cans of vitamin-fortified soda contributed by Pop Your Vitamins — products that will move through the food bank's distribution network across 32 Colorado counties and 23 Wyoming counties.

The Partnership Model

The collaboration illustrates a retailer-brand giving model that is gaining traction in natural and organic grocery: an anchor retailer aligns its milestone marketing with a shelf partner's first major community activation. For Pop Your Vitamins, a newer Natural Grocers vendor, the donation provides meaningful brand visibility while directly serving a regional hunger-relief mission. For Natural Grocers, it reinforces a community investment story that now totals more than $1.3 million donated to Food Bank of the Rockies and more than four million meals facilitated over more than two decades of partnership.

"For 71 years, Natural Grocers has believed that healthy communities start with access to nutritious food," said Raquel Isely, vice president of marketing at Natural Grocers. "We're honored to support Food Bank of the Rockies and grateful to collaborate with Pop Your Vitamins as we kick off our anniversary celebration."

The timing is deliberate. Mark Weslar, food sourcing director for Food Bank of the Rockies, noted that food insecurity is currently at its highest level in more than a decade, both locally and nationally — a backdrop that gives the product influx immediate operational relevance. Food Bank of the Rockies recently opened a new 270,000-square-foot distribution center in Aurora, Colorado, a facility designed to triple cold storage space, triple volunteer capacity, and increase fresh produce distribution by up to 50% over time. That expanded infrastructure means the donated products can reach beneficiaries faster and at greater scale than in prior years.

Anniversary Events Set for August

Natural Grocers' broader 71st anniversary celebration runs August 13–15 across its 174 stores in 22 states. Loyalty members enrolled in the retailer's {N}power program can access savings of up to 52% on more than 600 products, while all customers are eligible for daily giveaways and free samples. A sweepstakes tied to the event offers more than 4,200 prizes valued collectively at more than $184,000, including a Toyota RAV4 Hybrid valued at $45,000.

The anniversary push matters for operators and natural and organic food retailers tracking how specialty grocers are leveraging milestone moments: Natural Grocers is converting a brand anniversary into a layered community-relations, vendor-partnership, and loyalty-activation campaign — a playbook with clear implications for how retailers structure cause-marketing around major milestones. For emerging functional beverage brands looking for retail distribution and visibility, the Pop Your Vitamins integration also signals that community giving collaborations can serve as an effective market-entry vehicle alongside traditional shelf placement.
