Wine Country Experience Combines Dining, Tastings, and Historic Rail Travel
The Napa Valley Wine Train is promoting its signature Legacy Experience as a full-day wine country outing designed to eliminate the need for guests to drive between wineries during summer season.
The six-hour journey departs daily and includes stops at Charles Krug, Napa Valley's oldest winery, and V. Sattui Winery in St. Helena. Along the way, passengers receive a gourmet breakfast upon boarding, four courses of chef-curated cuisine, and 11 wine tastings distributed across the three winery stops.
The itinerary follows a set route: guests board with sparkling wine and breakfast at their seats, then travel to the iconic "Welcome to Napa Valley" sign where they taste three premium wines. The train then proceeds to Charles Krug, where passengers visit the restored historic Redwood Cellar for award-winning tastings. A cheese course is served en route to V. Sattui, which opened in 1885 and recently enhanced its on-property marketplace. The return journey includes dessert and a celebration in the train's open-air car.
"We welcome guests to experience summer in Napa Valley from an entirely unique perspective aboard our historic train, where every part of the journey is designed to celebrate the beauty, flavors and spirit of the season," said Nathan Davis, general manager of the Napa Valley Wine Train. "From exclusive wine tastings and chef-curated cuisine to dancing in our open-air car, the Legacy Experience invites guests to create meaningful summer memories with friends, family and loved ones while discovering the rich history that helped shape Napa Valley into one of the world's premier wine destinations."
Summer Promotion and Details
Through September 9, the Napa Valley Wine Train is running a "Create Your Summer Legacy" promotion featuring four social media giveaways with chances to win Legacy Experience tickets. The company has also created a curated Summer Legacy Spotify Playlist tied to the journey.
Guests must be 21 or older to participate. Tickets are available at www.winetrain.com/our-experiences/legacy-experience.
Why It Matters
Experiential dining and wine tourism remain strong revenue drivers for hospitality operators in premium markets. The Legacy Experience represents a fixed-itinerary, all-inclusive model that captures multiple revenue streams—rail transport, dining, beverages, and winery commissions—while managing operational complexity through standardized routes and scheduling. The summer-focused promotion targets leisure travelers seeking curated experiences over DIY wine tours, a segment that has demonstrated resilience post-pandemic.
