Three of Mars Snacking's most recognizable cracker varieties are moving into resealable canisters for the first time, a format shift the company says responds directly to demand for portable, mess-free snacking. Cheez-It Original, Cheez-It Grooves Minis Sharp White Cheddar, and Club Minis Original are now rolling out to select retailers nationwide at a suggested retail price of $2.69 per canister.
The Product Lineup
Each of the three SKUs targets a distinct snack occasion while sharing the same grab-and-go convenience pitch. Cheez-It Original retains its 100% real cheese recipe in the new format. Cheez-It Grooves Minis Sharp White Cheddar is a new mini size of the ridged Grooves line, leaning on bold flavor and added crunch. Club Minis translates the brand's buttery, flaky profile into a smaller portion designed for snacking, sharing, and foodservice-adjacent serve occasions.
The resealable lid is central to the positioning: Mars Snacking argues that keeping crackers crunchy from first bite to last is a functional differentiator over traditional flexible bags, which can lose seal integrity once opened. For operators or retailers building snack sets around impulse and convenience channels, the canister format also offers a more visible shelf presence and sturdier retail fixture stability than flexible packaging.
What It Means for Operators
"Easy, on-the-go snacking is a top need for our fans," said Nicole Sorensen, VP of Marketing, Crackers at Mars Snacking. "By bringing these popular Cheez-It and Club crackers to this grab-and-go format, we're giving people a simple way to enjoy their favorites anywhere, anytime."
For foodservice and hospitality buyers, the $2.69 price point and canister format position these SKUs squarely in the grab-and-go snack daypart — a category that has seen sustained growth across convenience, travel, and non-traditional retail channels. Hotels, airport concessions, and workplace micro-markets that already stock shelf-stable snack brands will find the canister format a logical addition to existing planograms, requiring minimal repositioning of supplier relationships.
The launch also reflects a broader trend in snack packaging innovation that prioritizes single-serve or resealable convenience as consumers increasingly snack outside traditional meal windows. Mars, which became a $65 billion-plus business following its Kellanova acquisition, has the distribution infrastructure to push this format into a wide range of retail and non-traditional channels quickly. Buyers tracking better-for-me and portable snack category growth should note the competitive pressure this places on private-label and regional cracker brands occupying the same convenience-channel shelf space.
