Sports-driven travel is one of hospitality's fastest-growing demand segments, and Marriott Bonvoy is moving aggressively to capture it. The loyalty platform has released 37 player-curated city guides covering every U.S. and international city scheduled to host an NFL game in the 2026 season — from Philadelphia and San Francisco to Melbourne, Rio de Janeiro, Mexico City, London, Paris, and Madrid.
The Campaign Structure
Each guide is designed by social media artist Jeff Cole and features on-the-ground recommendations from current and former NFL players including Cooper Kupp (Seattle), Jordan Mailata (Philadelphia), Jerry Rice (Mexico City), Mark Ingram II (Rio de Janeiro), and Todd Gurley (Melbourne). Fred Warner in San Francisco and Kyle Hamilton in Baltimore are among the next wave of guides scheduled for release. The content is meant to surface the local dining spots, neighborhoods, and cultural touchpoints that shaped each player's relationship with their in-season city — the kind of insider intelligence that's difficult to replicate with standard destination marketing.
For hospitality operators, the strategic relevance extends beyond brand awareness. Marriott is wrapping the guides inside a full commerce layer: curated city guide packages in select host markets bundle game tickets, hotel stays, and local experiences. The Marriott Bonvoy Moments platform — which converts loyalty points into experiential bookings — serves as the redemption engine, giving members a direct path from engagement to booking. A new 10-episode content series will feature select players in their home destinations throughout the season, sustaining audience attention across a months-long window rather than concentrating it around a single event.
Super Bowl Sleepover Suite Returns
Reinforcing the season-long arc, Marriott Bonvoy is reviving its Super Bowl Sleepover Suite sweepstakes, offering one winner an overnight stay in a luxury suite converted into a hotel room inside SoFi Stadium the night before the game. The promotion runs through December 15, 2026.
The brand is also running a new TV campaign titled Long-Distance NFL Relationships, built around its Where Gameday Checks In platform. The campaign targets fans who travel to follow their teams regardless of distance — a traveler profile that correlates strongly with higher average hotel spend and longer booking windows, two metrics that matter to property-level revenue managers.
"Traveling fans who go to incredible lengths to see their favorite team play can experience NFL cities through the lens of those very same players," said Peggy Roe, Executive Vice President and Chief Customer Officer at Marriott International. "It is another way we are helping members turn their passions into meaningful travel experiences and lasting memories."
For operators tracking hospitality loyalty strategy, the Marriott Bonvoy NFL activation illustrates how large hotel groups are using sports partnerships to drive both member acquisition and direct booking behavior — bypassing third-party channels by embedding the booking path inside the content experience itself. Independent properties and regional hotel groups competing for the same sports-travel guest would do well to study the model, even if replicating the athlete access is out of reach. The broader lesson — connecting local food, beverage, and cultural recommendations to a traveler's emotional investment in a team — is one any restaurant and hospitality marketing team can apply at a local level.
