Cross-Continental Wine Project Debuts with Saint-Émilion and California Releases
Maison Mittal, a collector-focused wine portfolio by Neeta and Kunal Mittal of House of Mittal, has released its inaugural offerings: a 2022 Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Cuvée from Château Tour Perey and two Cabernet-focused blends from Paso Robles' Willow Creek District.
The Saint-Émilion release, produced in fewer than 100 cases, comes from clay-gravel soils planted with 70-year-old vines. The blend comprises 67% Cabernet Franc, 18% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 15% Merlot. Two Paso Robles releases follow: the Armaa.N Estate blend and G2 North, both Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon expressions from calcareous-soil sites.
Philosophy Rooted in Bordeaux Structure
The Mittals' wine journey began with a bottle of Château-Figeac tasted at L'Intendant Grands Vins de Bordeaux. According to Kunal Mittal, "What struck me about Figeac was its Cabernet backbone. It was Saint-Émilion, built around Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. That gave us a concrete reference point for Maison Mittal: structure, ageability, and elegance could come from Cabernet when planted in the right site. That became central to how we looked at Willow Creek District."
The Armaa.N Estate vineyard, the Mittals' home site in Willow Creek, is farmed with organic and regenerative practices. G2 North, sourced from a steep hillside site with calcareous shale, provides what the project describes as "tension, length, and structural backbone prized in collectible Bordeaux varieties."
Winemaking Leadership
Jeff Strekas leads the winemaking program, with input from Frédéric Ammons, former winemaker for Harlan Estate and Rudd Estate, for the portfolio's first five vintages.
A 2023 vintage Saint-Émilion Grand Cru release from Château Le Chatelet is slated for 2027. Maison Mittal offers reservation-only tastings at Armaa.N Vineyard pairing inaugural 2022 vintages with benchmark wines that shaped the project's approach.
