Restaurant and hospitality operators running Lightspeed Commerce now have access to a broad wave of platform updates aimed at closing the gap between customer discovery, booking, and in-venue transactions. The Montreal-based commerce platform, listed on both the NYSE and TSX under LSPD and active in more than 100 countries, rolled out the enhancements across its Restaurant, Retail, and Golf verticals on October 22, 2026.
For the Restaurant Floor
The most operationally significant update for foodservice operators is the integration of Reserve with Google into Lightspeed Reservations. Guests can now find availability and book directly from Google Search and Google Maps, eliminating friction between discovery and commitment. For high-traffic restaurants, fewer steps to a confirmed reservation can translate directly to higher covers and reduced no-shows. This kind of restaurant technology coverage has become increasingly critical as digital search drives a growing share of first-time guest traffic.
On the payments side, Lightspeed is rolling out two complementary tools. Scan to Pay lets guests use a QR code on their printed receipt to view the bill, split payment, add a tip, and pay from their own device — with no app download required. A revamped Pay at Table app (currently in Beta) lets servers handle check retrieval, bill splitting, and payment processing directly at the table using Lightspeed Payments Smart Terminals. Together, these features address one of the most persistent friction points in full-service dining: the end-of-meal payment handoff.
AI and Hardware Upgrades
Lightspeed is also expanding its AI capabilities specifically for hospitality operators. Custom Charts let users prompt the platform's AI to generate data visualizations, then pin those charts as live dashboard tiles that refresh with each new transaction. Saved Charts extend this further, turning one-time AI-generated insights into self-updating reports — keeping key performance metrics current without manual exports or third-party analytics tools. For multi-location operators and general managers juggling labor, covers, and revenue targets simultaneously, persistent AI dashboards represent a meaningful workflow improvement.
A new 8-inch Customer Display hardware unit rounds out the hospitality package. The customer-facing screen integrates directly with Lightspeed Restaurant and Lightspeed Payments, designed to improve order accuracy and speed checkout at high-volume locations. The display is currently available to select Lightspeed customers.
Beyond the Restaurant
The broader platform update also includes retail-focused tools — notably a Meta Conversions API integration that lets brick-and-mortar merchants tie digital ad spend to in-store sales, and an AI Doc Import feature that converts supplier invoices into purchase orders automatically. For operators who run hybrid food-retail concepts or café-boutique formats, these tools extend the platform's reach into beverage industry analysis and specialty retail without requiring separate systems.
For golf, Lightspeed introduced an On Deck waitlist feature that notifies interested golfers when a canceled tee time matches their preferred window — a demand-recovery mechanic that hospitality operators may recognize from hotel and restaurant reservation management.
Dax Dasilva, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Lightspeed, framed the updates around operational consolidation rather than feature volume. "Businesses don't need more disconnected tools, they need technology that turns complexity into clear business value," he said. Chief Technology Officer Bhawna Singh added that the platform's direction is toward using commerce data — transactions, inventory, customers, operations — as the foundation for AI-driven decision-making.
The updates reflect a broader industry push to connect front-of-house demand signals with back-of-house operations in real time, a priority that Food & Beverage Magazine has tracked as a defining technology theme across the foodservice sector.
