Klondike, Good Humor, and Popsicle are crossing into the coffee aisle. Java Factory has launched officially licensed flavored coffees inspired by three of America's most recognizable frozen-treat brands, kicking off the second themed season of its Flavor52 program — a year-long initiative designed to release 52 new coffee flavors over 52 consecutive weeks.
The Ice Cream Lineup
The new "Ice Cream Truck Season" opened September 14 with a Klondike-inspired coffee and continues with a new release every Monday through mid-October. The confirmed schedule includes Raspberry Italian Ice (Sept. 21), Popsicle Firecracker (Sept. 28), Good Humor Chocolate Éclair (Oct. 5), Good Humor Toasted Almond (Oct. 12), and a Mystery Halloween Flavor (Oct. 19). The season also features Creamsicle and Breyers Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough releases. All SKUs are built on specialty-grade 100% Arabica Brazilian coffee.
"The idea that you can wake up and drink a coffee inspired by a Klondike bar, a Good Humor Chocolate Éclair or a Popsicle Firecracker is exactly what Flavor52 is about," said Sam Blaney, Executive Vice President of Java Factory. "We're taking flavors and brands people already have an emotional connection to and putting them somewhere they never expected to find them: their coffee cup."
Collaboration Culture Meets Coffee
For operators and beverage industry buyers tracking flavored coffee innovation, the Java Factory model represents a deliberate departure from the category's traditional playbook. Rather than a single seasonal push — the pumpkin-spice cycle being the obvious benchmark — Flavor52 borrows the drop-culture mechanics that have energized snacks, candy, and limited-edition foodservice menus. A consumer leaderboard on the Java Factory website lets shoppers vote on which flavors deserve permanent lineup status, adding a built-in engagement loop that extends well beyond the initial purchase.
Steven Schrieber, President of Java Factory, framed the ambition plainly: "Those categories are constantly creating something new for consumers to discover. Coffee has largely been operating on a much slower cycle. Flavor52 is our belief that flavored coffee can be just as creative, collectible and exciting."
Flavor development is handled in partnership with Flavor & Fragrance Specialties (FFS), a division of Lucta. FFS specialists work with the Java Factory team to translate the sensory profile of each source inspiration — aroma, taste, and the memory associations tied to the original product — into a coffee format. The goal, per the company, is not simply flavoring coffee but faithfully reproducing the full sensory experience of the frozen treat it references.
What Comes Next
Flavor52 spans six themed seasons: Throwback Collection, Ice Cream Truck, Sweater Weather, Wild Ones, Just Desserts, and The Finale. The program is slated to conclude at the 2027 Summer Fancy Food Show, where Java Factory plans to unveil its final flavor. The company is also pursuing a Guinness World Records title for the most unique coffee flavors launched by a single coffee brand within one year.
For restaurant and hospitality professionals evaluating consumer-packaged beverage trends that could translate to on-premise menus or retail adjacencies, the licensed-collaboration approach signals a broader shift: flavor innovation in coffee is accelerating toward the same cadence of novelty and scarcity that has reshaped other food and beverage categories. Operators in café, hotel, and quick-service segments may find the limited-edition, nostalgia-driven format increasingly relevant as a traffic and engagement tool. Food & Beverage Magazine has tracked similar cross-category licensing momentum as a defining trend in specialty beverage.
