The win follows last year's triumph, when Kavalan Solist Fino Sherry earned 97.04 points for the same title — an unprecedented consecutive run at one of the industry's most demanding double-blind tasting competitions.
The Winning Whisky
The Peatist Oloroso Sherry Cask belongs to Kavalan's Peatist Series, which explores the interplay between lightly peated malt and the distillery's subtropical maturation environment in Yilan County, Taiwan. Matured in Oloroso Sherry casks, the expression draws complexity from both the wood and the intense humidity and heat of the region. Octavio Bernal, Master of Scotch at the Council of Whiskey Masters, provided the official tasting notes: "The nose opens with oily leather, an earthy tea blend and a hint of anise, followed by grilled mango, light ash and a touch of white pepper. On the palate, chocolate-covered raisins, chewy figs and a delicate smoky barbecue tang come forward. The finish lingers with dark leather, juicy cassis and lightly roasted cocoa nibs."
Beyond the top award, Kavalan secured eight of the competition's Top 15 Whiskies of 2026 slots — a dominant showing that signals broad portfolio strength, not merely a single standout expression. Head of Research and Development Zerose Yang was also named Master Distiller of the Year, adding an individual accolade to the distillery's haul.
