A new private-label ready-to-drink cocktail is putting Kauaʻi-distilled rum at the center of a tightly woven Hawaii hospitality partnership. Kōloa Rum Company and Honolulu's Skull & Crown Trading Co. have released an exclusive Pineapple Passion RTD, blending Kōloa Kaua'i White Rum with pineapple and passion fruit purée. The product is available solely at Skull & Crown's Chinatown bar and at Mauka Warriors, an immersive Polynesian dinner show, where it also forms the base of the venue's signature Mai Tai.

The Product

The Pineapple Passion RTD leans on Kōloa's small-batch white rum as its foundation, with the tropical fruit purée delivering the brightness typical of island-style cocktail programs. At Mauka Warriors, the RTD is built out further with a float of Kōloa Kaua'i Dark Rum, adding what the company describes as notes of Tahitian vanilla and layered depth to the finished Mai Tai. The limited distribution — venue-exclusive rather than retail-wide — positions the RTD as a hospitality amenity and on-premise differentiator rather than a shelf product, a strategy that aligns with the growing operator interest in exclusive beverage programming as a tool for driving guest loyalty and repeat visits.

A Local-First Strategy

The collaboration formalizes what has been an ongoing on-premise relationship: Skull & Crown has featured Kōloa across its cocktail menus since the bar's original Chinatown opening, including its annual Tiki in Waikiki event and seasonal holiday pop-ups. The new RTD extends that relationship into co-branded product development, with custom label artwork created jointly by Skull & Crown owners Noa and Angelina, Mauka Warriors, and Kōloa Rum — positioning the bottle itself as a brand touchpoint for all three Hawaii businesses.

"Our collaboration came from a shared passion for showcasing Hawaiian hospitality and exceptional island flavors," said Robert Ramer, COO of Kōloa Rum Company. "Partnering with Skull & Crown and Mauka Warriors reflects this mission, bringing together like-minded brands that represent the very best Hawai'i has to offer."

Operator Takeaway

For operators tracking RTD trends, the Kōloa–Skull & Crown model illustrates how venue-exclusive private-label programs can deepen a spirit brand's on-premise presence without competing with retail channels. The pairing suggestion — Kalua pork alongside the Pineapple Passion RTD or the signature Mai Tai — also reflects a broader restaurant beverage strategy of building food-and-drink pairings that reinforce a venue's culinary identity. Kōloa, established in 2009 and producing a portfolio that spans white, gold, dark, spice, coconut, cacao, coffee, and aged expressions, has distribution across select retailers nationwide and in international markets, but this RTD remains intentionally off that grid, kept within the experiential hospitality context where the brand first built its local following.
