For the first time in more than three decades, Jif is getting a new look. The J.M. Smucker Co. brand revealed a full packaging overhaul on August 10, 2026, refreshing its signature tri-color banner, dropping the dated drop shadow from the wordmark for a cleaner aesthetic, and replacing legacy on-pack imagery with scenes that showcase peanut butter across a wider range of snacking occasions. Products carrying the new design begin shipping in October 2026 and will roll onto shelves in waves through fall and early winter.
Beyond the Sandwich
The redesign is more than a cosmetic update — it signals a deliberate pivot in how Smucker's intends to market its flagship peanut butter brand to consumers and retail buyers alike. Rather than anchoring Jif's identity to the classic peanut butter and jelly sandwich, the refreshed packaging highlights quick, convenient snacking moments: paired with apple slices, crackers, rice cakes, or eaten directly from a squeezable pack. That shift reflects broader trends in grocery and foodservice snacking behavior, where portable, high-protein formats have gained significant shelf space over the past several years.
"We wanted to honor the iconic elements people know and love while bringing new energy to the shelf," said Shelly Kowal, Marketing Director at The J.M. Smucker Co. "Jif has evolved from being one of the key ingredients in a PB&J to also serving as a delicious complement to so many snacking occasions, and this new branding celebrates that."
Product Line Updates
The visual refresh arrives alongside several product-level moves. Jif To Go, the brand's single-serve cup, is being renamed Jif Dippers to more explicitly communicate the dipping and portability use case to shoppers. The broader portfolio also now includes a Jif Peanut Butter & Chocolate Flavored Spread and Jif Simply™ Peanut Butter Spread, both introduced as part of the brand's consumer-led innovation push. Squeezable formats have also been expanded to make on-the-go snacking more accessible — a format that has resonated strongly with convenience-oriented shoppers across the packaged food and beverage category.
For foodservice and hospitality operators who incorporate branded pantry staples — whether in grab-and-go retail sections, café setups, or amenity programs — the updated Jif packaging and product naming are worth noting ahead of the fall shelf transition. The cleaner, bolder on-shelf presence is designed to improve product discoverability both in physical retail and in e-commerce contexts, which increasingly influence purchasing decisions across channels.
The product formula itself is unchanged; Smucker's confirmed that the iconic Jif taste remains consistent across the full portfolio. Food & Beverage Magazine has covered Smucker's broader portfolio strategy, which spans coffee, fruit spreads, frozen handheld foods, and sweet baked goods under brands including Folgers, Uncrustables, and Hostess.
