Family-owned J. Lohr Vineyards & Wines is rolling out a fully redesigned package for its J. Lohr Estates Flume Crossing Sauvignon Blanc — the 2025 vintage — set to hit retail shelves and on-premise accounts over the next few months at a $14 suggested retail price.

The New Packaging

The refreshed label trades the wine's previous look for a single-label design featuring native wildflowers, butterflies, and botanical illustrations that nod to the biodiversity of Monterey County's Arroyo Seco appellation, where J. Lohr founder Jerry Lohr first planted grapevines in 1972. The bottle itself shifts to a lightly green-tinted eco-flint glass, a visual cue to the wine's cool-climate freshness. The label retains J. Lohr's iconic logo and a Stelvin screwcap closure. The redesign is intentionally coordinated with last year's packaging update for J. Lohr Estates Riverstone Chardonnay, creating a cohesive visual story across both wines in retail wine sections and cold boxes — a meaningful advantage for on-floor merchandising.

"As consumer demand for Sauvignon Blanc continues to increase, we wanted the package to tell the story of the remarkable place where this wine was grown," said Kristen Barnhisel, J. Lohr Winemaker for White Wine. "The Arroyo Seco corridor is a unique biome, home to an incredible tapestry of plant and animal species; these healthy ecosystems are as important to producing high-quality wines as are our time-tested, traditional winemaking techniques."

On-Premise and Retail Reach

For restaurant and bar operators, Flume Crossing is available beyond the standard 750ml format: the wine is part of J. Lohr's reusable stainless steel keg program, making it a practical by-the-glass option for on-premise accounts focused on reducing packaging waste and streamlining service. The Certified California Sustainable designation on the back label also addresses growing operator demand for wines with verifiable environmental credentials — a factor increasingly relevant to menu storytelling and beverage program development.

The 2025 vintage is crafted from 100% Sauvignon Blanc sourced from Arroyo Seco estate vineyards, where persistent afternoon winds off Monterey Bay and well-drained cobblestone soils yield pronounced freshness and mineral character. Winemaking splits between 63% stainless steel fermentation and 37% in acacia and neutral French oak barrels, a combination the winery says adds textural complexity without sacrificing the variety's signature brightness. Tasting notes point to honeysuckle, key lime, fig, and sweet herbs on the nose, with kiwi and ripe grapefruit on the palate.

Sauvignon Blanc has been one of California's fastest-growing white wine categories in recent years, and Flume Crossing's accessible price point positions it squarely in the value-driven segment of that wave. With national distribution already in place and a shelf-aligned redesign connecting it visually to Riverstone Chardonnay, J. Lohr is clearly making a play for improved fixture presence as white wine category competition intensifies heading into fall programming. Operators and buyers sourcing for restaurant beverage programs will find the keg option a particularly compelling angle for high-volume white wine pours.

J. Lohr manages more than 4,000 acres of certified sustainable estate vineyards across Arroyo Seco, the Santa Lucia Highlands, Paso Robles, and Napa Valley's St. Helena, and produces eight tiers of wines under the family-owned portfolio. Food & Beverage Magazine has previously covered the growing operator interest in sustainable wine sourcing as a differentiator for beverage programs.
