The Core Offer

Insomnia Cookies is running its eighth annual PJ Party on Tuesday, Sept. 15, handing one free Classic cookie to every guest who walks into any U.S. or Canada bakery in pajamas — no purchase and no loyalty membership required. The event, tied to National PJ Party Night (a holiday the brand itself created in 2024), runs from 8 p.m. until close at nearly all locations, with the Dayton, Ohio, bakery celebrating from 6 to 10 p.m. Last year the promotion generated approximately 67,000 free cookie redemptions across the network.

The giveaway scales with location type. All 174 campus bakeries will add event décor and merchandise giveaways — koozies, totes, sticker packs, lip balms, pens, and Grace & Stella energizing eye patches at 149 of those stores, while 25 designated "enhanced" campus bakeries will also run prize wheels with Insomnia playing cards and trucker hats. Operators can check which tier their nearest location falls into at the brand's event page.

Dream Dorm Giveaway

Layered on top of the in-store traffic play is a social sweepstakes designed to extend the brand moment past closing time. One college student who attends the Sept. 15 event, posts a photo in pajamas with their cookie on Instagram or TikTok using #InsomniaPJParty, and tags @insomniacookies will win the Dream Dorm Giveaway — a prize package that includes free Insomnia Cookies for a year, a Hatch Restore 3 smart alarm and one-year Hatch+ membership, Lola Blankets bedding, a Brooklinen Luxe Core Sheet Set, custom skateboard décor, a BedHead PJs pajama set, a $200 gift card, an espresso machine, and headphones. The sweepstakes window opens at 8 p.m. ET on Sept. 15 and closes at 11:59 p.m. ET on Sept. 16.

Deals Extend Beyond Sept. 15

For operators tracking the full promotional arc, Insomnia is stacking additional offers that stretch nearly two weeks past the event itself. On Sept. 15 only, all bakeries will offer 25% off ice cream cups and pints in-store. Through Sept. 27, in-store guests who buy six Classic cookies receive two free, while app users who buy 12 receive four free. Insomnia Rewards members earn double points on all eligible channels on Sept. 15.

The layered promotional structure — free product, merchandise, a high-value sweepstakes, and multi-week purchase incentives — reflects a broader restaurant loyalty and traffic-driving strategy that has become increasingly common among late-night and snack-focused concepts competing for the college demographic. Brands in this segment have leaned heavily into seasonal back-to-school moments to reactivate lapsed customers and acquire new loyalty members, a trend well documented in food and beverage industry analysis. Founded at the University of Pennsylvania in 2003, Insomnia Cookies now operates more than 360 locations, with campus bakeries forming a core pillar of its expansion footprint.
