Property-Wide Overhaul Introduces Flexible Accommodations and New Dining Concept Hilton Garden Inn New York/Manhattan-Midtown East has completed a property-wide renovation spanning guestrooms, public spaces, dining offerings, and guest amenities. The 207-room hotel, located on East 52nd Street in the heart of Midtown East, now features flexible accommodations and a reimagined social hub with interactive entertainment designed to serve both travelers and local residents. Design firm Baskervill led the transformation, building on Hilton Garden Inn's Bloom design scheme with custom touches including warm textures, modern finishes, and a palette of blue tones accented with yellow. "Our goal with this renovation was to create a hospitality experience that represents how people gather, work, and travel today," said Joel Ruiz, General Manager of Hilton Garden Inn New York/Manhattan-Midtown East. "From overnight guests seeking a convenient home base in Manhattan to local residents looking for a welcoming place to meet, dine, or unwind, the redesigned hotel offers spaces that bring people together while responding to a variety of needs and occasions."
Convertible Rooms Set Property Apart The hotel now offers 14 convertible room types with integrated wall beds, allowing guests to shift between living, working, and sleeping configurations. Hilton Garden Inn New York/Manhattan-Midtown East is currently the only Hilton Garden Inn property offering these convertible accommodations. New Workspace Rooms provide expanded work surfaces and 55-inch HDTVs with seamless HDMI connectivity for remote professionals and corporate guests. The conference table folds away to reveal a comfortable king bed. Multiple Workspace Rooms can connect to adjacent guestrooms to form multi-room executive suites. Studio Rooms serve longer-stay guests, traveling families, and visitors to nearby medical facilities like Memorial Sloan Kettering. By day, these rooms function as comfortable living areas and transform into king-bed bedrooms at night. Both Studio and Workspace Rooms can connect with adjacent guestrooms to create multi-room suites. All 207 guestrooms now feature stylish furnishings, larger work surfaces, dedicated work areas, and upgraded Hospitality Centers with microwaves, mini-fridges, and Keurig coffee makers. Technology enhancements include conveniently placed charging ports, adjustable reading lamps, laptop-sized safes, blackout curtains, Digital Key access, complimentary Wi-Fi, and 55-inch HDTVs with streaming capabilities and premium channels. Select accommodations offer city views, outdoor terraces, dedicated meeting or work areas, and connecting-room configurations.
The Back Room Restaurant & Bar Opens for Dinner The hotel's new social hub, The Back Room Restaurant & Bar, blends dining, entertainment, and gathering spaces into a single destination for guests and locals. Features include original wood wall paneling, an elevated bar, pool table, arcade games, and various seating styles designed for informal gatherings and after-work drinks. Open for breakfast, dinner, and evening cocktails, The Back Room's menu features a signature Smash Burger alongside a curated cocktail program. Guests can also use the hotel's Call & Collect service for in-room or grab-and-go dining. The space includes a commissioned art piece titled Speakeasy Subway, portraying a vintage underground party scene aboard a New York City subway.
Enhanced Amenities and Sustainability Focus The reimagined lobby adds banquettes, communal tables, and distinct seating areas that turn structural elements into inviting places to connect. Updated lighting and vertical detailing create a brighter, more open environment for working, meeting, or relaxing. The property includes a refreshed fitness center featuring all-new equipment, including a Peloton Bike and state-of-the-art Precor machines. Pet-friendly accommodations are available with pet beds, disposable water bowls, and waste bags. Sustainability and wellness were priorities throughout the renovation. The hotel incorporated responsibly sourced, low-impact materials including reclaimed wood fiber furnishings, recycled nylon carpeting, GREENGUARD-certified furniture, and low-VOC finishes. Energy-efficient LED lighting was installed throughout. AtmosAir air-purification technology was installed in every guestroom and all public areas to reduce allergens, pollutants, and odors while supporting energy efficiency.
Limited-Time Launch Package To celebrate the renovation, the hotel is introducing "A New Tune in Midtown," a limited-time package inspired by Midtown Manhattan's musical history. The offer includes a self-guided walking map highlighting storied music destinations throughout Midtown, including Swing Street, Carnegie Hall, the Brill Building, Broadway, and Radio City Music Hall. A hotel-curated Spotify playlist provides the soundtrack. Guests can return to The Back Room Restaurant & Bar to redeem two Back Room Backstage Drink Passes for complimentary signature cocktails.
Why It Matters
The property's convertible room offerings and flexible workspace configurations address operators' need to accommodate diverse guest needs—from extended stays to remote work arrangements. The integration of dining, entertainment, and social spaces into The Back Room positions the hotel to capture both guest and local revenue streams, while sustainability investments signal growing hospitality sector expectations around environmental responsibility and indoor air quality.
