The Card's Structure

Harris Teeter, the Kroger-owned grocery chain operating more than 250 stores across the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast, has introduced the Harris Teeter Rewards World Elite Mastercard®, a co-branded credit card designed to deepen customer loyalty by tying spending rewards directly to grocery and fuel savings. The card carries no annual fee and imposes no spending caps on points earning, a structure that positions it competitively within the growing field of grocery-anchored financial products.

The earn rate is tiered by channel: cardholders receive up to 5X points on purchases made through the Harris Teeter website and app, 4X points at participating Harris Teeter fuel pumps, and up to 3X points on in-store purchases. Spending outside the banner earns 2X points on dining, utilities, and travel, and 1X on all other eligible Mastercard purchases. Points link automatically to a cardholder's existing loyalty account and do not expire while the account remains active and in good standing.

Loyalty Program Integration

For grocery operators and foodservice retailers watching the loyalty landscape, the card's most operationally significant feature may be its bundled HT Plus membership. New cardholders receive complimentary access to HT Plus, which includes exclusive savings and free next-day delivery on orders of $35 or more — a direct play to increase digital order frequency and basket size. A $100 welcome bonus is available to eligible new cardholders who meet qualifying spend requirements within 90 days, along with a $10 annual birthday reward.

"Our new credit card builds on that commitment by giving customers more ways to earn meaningful rewards on everyday purchases, with the flexibility to save on groceries, fuel or both," said Danna Robinson, director of corporate affairs and customer relations for Harris Teeter.

The card is powered by Imprint, a New York-based payments and loyalty technology platform that also works with brands including Shell and Kroger. Imprint's infrastructure enables customers to apply for and manage the card entirely within the Harris Teeter app, consolidating rewards earning, tracking, and redemption in a single digital touchpoint — a friction-reducing move that mirrors broader restaurant and retail loyalty program trends.

What It Means for Operators

Grocery co-branded credit cards have become an increasingly active battleground as chains look to reduce reliance on promotional discounting while building durable, data-rich customer relationships. By routing high-earning categories — digital ordering, fuel, in-store spend — through a single financial product, Harris Teeter can capture purchase behavior across channels, feeding more granular data back into its merchandising and personalization engines. The complimentary delivery membership also puts direct pressure on third-party delivery platforms by incentivizing shoppers to order natively through the Harris Teeter app.

For the broader food and beverage retail sector, the launch illustrates how grocery loyalty programs are evolving beyond simple points-for-discounts mechanics into integrated financial ecosystems. As Food & Beverage Magazine has tracked, operators across channels are increasingly using co-branded financial products to lock in share of wallet well beyond the store aisle. The card is issued by First Bank & Trust under a Mastercard license and operated by Imprint Payments, Inc.
