Grupo Chilero has acquired Tadin Herb and Tea, the top-ranked Hispanic tea brand in the U.S., folding it into a portfolio that already includes La Fiesta and Chef Merito. The deal gives the Southern California–based Hispanic food company three category-leading brands and strengthens its direct store delivery infrastructure at a moment when Hispanic consumer purchasing power continues to reshape foodservice and retail shelf strategy.
What Tadin Brings
Founded in 1982 in Los Angeles, Tadin built its reputation on herbal teas and botanical wellness products rooted in traditional remedies common to Hispanic households. Its chamomile tea holds the distinction of being the best-selling tea in Southern California. The brand's full lineup spans teas, herbs, spices, seeds, and botanicals in both tea bag and loose formats, all sourced, formulated, and packaged at an SQF- and Organic-certified facility in Vernon, CA. That facility will continue to operate under the new ownership, preserving existing staff, product formulations, and the quality controls that earned the brand its standing.
Margaret Crow, Chief Executive Officer of Grupo Chilero, framed the acquisition as a strategic step toward building the leading Hispanic food company in the U.S. "Each of our brands represents decades of trusted heritage, strong consumer loyalty, and deep roots in Hispanic food culture across the United States," Crow said. "Bringing Tadin together with La Fiesta and Chef Merito helps us achieve our vision to be the leading Hispanic food company in the U.S., uniting three iconic, category-leading brands and expanding our best-in-class direct store delivery network nationwide."
Operator and Retail Implications
For foodservice operators and retail buyers, the acquisition signals a more consolidated go-to-market approach for Hispanic specialty products. Grupo Chilero's DSD network spans more than 150 routes and multiple distribution centers, a scale that gives retail partners improved in-store execution and more reliable replenishment — logistics advantages that independent distributors often struggle to match. La Fiesta dominates the bagged Hispanic chile and spice category, while Chef Merito's Butcher Blends are embedded in thousands of Mexican restaurants, mercados, and carnicerías. Adding Tadin's tea and botanical segment rounds out the company's reach across dry grocery and the wellness-adjacent beverage aisle, a category drawing growing attention from both restaurant beverage programs and grocery buyers tracking demand for functional and herbal drinks.
Jose Gonzalez, President of Tadin, said the partnership positions the brand for broader national distribution without sacrificing what built its loyal customer base. "Margaret and her team know us, they respect what we have built, and they have what it takes to bring our teas to even more families," Gonzalez said.
What's Next
Grupo Chilero's stated priority is expanding Tadin's shelf presence nationally while keeping its existing production operations intact. The company's GFSI-certified supply chain infrastructure should accelerate that process for retail accounts that require certified supplier status. Industry observers tracking Hispanic food and beverage segment growth will note that this consolidation mirrors broader M&A activity in the category, where scaled operators are acquiring heritage brands to capture multicultural market share rather than building new brand equity from scratch. For operators sourcing authentic Hispanic ingredients and beverages, Grupo Chilero's expanded portfolio means a single distribution relationship could now cover a wider range of menu and retail needs.
