Clean-energy drink brand GORGIE launched Berry Burst, a zero-sugar, five-calorie flavor, exclusively at Target locations nationwide on September 13. The launch extends a distribution run that has carried the brand to nearly 60,000 points of distribution, with a stated target of 100,000 by early 2027.

Each Berry Burst can delivers 150mg of green tea caffeine alongside Biotin, B Vitamins, and L-Theanine — the same functional stack that anchors GORGIE's existing lineup. The formula contains no artificial sweeteners, including aspartame, sucralose, or erythritol, positioning it squarely within the better-for-you energy segment that has drawn significant retail and foodservice attention in recent years.

Retail Momentum

The Target exclusivity follows a period of rapid shelf expansion for GORGIE. The brand reports retail sales up 600% year over year and holds the No. 1 independent energy drink position at Target. At a leading national natural retailer, GORGIE now commands nearly 20% of the energy category — nearly triple its approximately 7% share from a year ago. That kind of velocity matters to buyers evaluating which energy SKUs merit premium shelf placement heading into 2027 planogram resets.

"Consumers are showing us that modern energy is not a niche. It is the next evolution of the category," said Michelle Cordeiro Grant, Founder and CEO of GORGIE. "They want ingredients they recognize, benefits that support their days, flavors they genuinely crave, and a can they are excited to carry."

Why Operators Should Watch

For beverage buyers and hospitality operators tracking the functional beverage market, GORGIE's trajectory illustrates how smaller independent brands can outpace legacy energy players by combining clean-label formulation with lifestyle-driven marketing. The Berry Burst campaign — shot on the streets of New York City during Fashion Week — positions the can as a seasonal accessory as much as a functional drink, a tactic increasingly common among brands targeting younger, wellness-oriented consumers.

The fall timing is also deliberate. Cordeiro Grant noted that purple's current cultural resonance shaped the can's design, a strategy that mirrors the color-driven seasonal launches common in foodservice limited-time-offer programming. Operators stocking grab-and-go coolers or curating functional beverage selections for hotel and resort outlets may find the brand's aesthetic differentiation as compelling as its ingredient profile.

GORGIE, founded by Cordeiro Grant in 2022 and backed by Notable Capital and Coefficient Capital, launched its first sparkling energy line in January 2023. Beyond retail, the brand operates Club GORGIE, a members-only app offering product drops, events, and rewards — a community-building model that increasingly informs how specialty beverage brands drive trial and repeat purchase outside traditional retail channels.
