Gaylord Hotels Expands Summer Programming Nationwide

Gaylord Hotels, part of Marriott International's portfolio, is rolling out expanded summer programming across six destination resorts, featuring DC Super Heroes experiences at select properties and an all-new All-American SummerFest initiative.

The DC-branded programming, developed in partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Experiences (WBDGE), expands to two new properties this year: Gaylord National Resort in National Harbor, Maryland, and Gaylord Pacific Resort in Chula Vista, California. The program returns to Gaylord Palms in Kissimmee, Florida, and Gaylord Rockies in Aurora, Colorado.

Meanwhile, All-American SummerFest debuts at Gaylord Opryland in Nashville, Tennessee, and Gaylord Texan in Grapevine, Texas.

Super Hero Summer Offerings

Super Hero Summer experiences include a DC Super Hero Academy Live Show where "guests can jump into the action and flex their superpowers." Additional attractions include the DC Super Hero Splash Bash (a poolside celebration with games and waterslides), Hall of Justice Character Dining with Justice League members, and the Battle for Justice Light Show.

Guests can also participate in the Revenge of the Riddler Scavenger Hunt, a resort-wide puzzle challenge, or enjoy DC-themed dining at Sports Bar venues. A "Legends in the Making Overnight Package" includes the scavenger hunt experience, a minimum $50 nightly resort credit, and a Super Hero-themed cape.

Super Hero Summer runs through early September at most locations, with Gaylord Pacific operating June 20 through August 16.

Americana-Focused Programming

All-American SummerFest features fireworks, pool parties, and live entertainment celebrating American traditions. At Gaylord Opryland, "America's Birthday Party & Fireworks" invites guests to "stake out a spot on the lawn" and watch "dazzling displays of colors," while the "Sounds of America Lights and Fountain Show" brings "the rhythms shaping the American story to life."

Gaylord Texan offers an Aqua Glow Party with nighttime poolside activities and the "America's 250th Birthday Bash" every Saturday night, celebrating "250 years of American history" with patriotic entertainment. The property also features "The Animals of America," a wildlife encounter with expert handlers.

Operator Context

Gaylord Hotels operates 3.2 million square feet of meeting space across six large resort properties, positioning the brand as a convention and destination resort player. The programming strategy mirrors broader hospitality trends emphasizing extended-stay experiences and bundled F&B/entertainment packages to drive ancillary revenue. Both the DC partnership and Americana themes target family leisure travel during peak summer demand.

All programming varies by resort location. More details are available at www.gaylordhotels.com.

Why It Matters

For hospitality operators, Gaylord's strategy demonstrates how resort properties are leveraging IP partnerships and seasonal programming to compete in the summer leisure market while differentiating across portfolio properties. The programming duration—running through early September—extends peak occupancy windows beyond traditional summer travel patterns, a key revenue driver for destination resorts competing for family vacation spending.
