Historic Italian Hotel Group Modernizes Brand Architecture FH55 Hotels, the Italian hospitality group founded in 1955, has unveiled a comprehensive rebranding designed to strengthen its market presence while maintaining the distinct character of each property. The rebrand marks a natural evolution for the group, which now operates four hotels across Florence, Rome, and Fiesole. "This rebranding represents an important milestone in the history of FH55 Hotels, because it allows us to give a new expression to an identity rooted in more than 70 years of Italian hospitality," said Claudio Catani, Vice President Operations of FH55 Hotels. "We did not simply want to change a logo, but to communicate more clearly who we are today and, above all, where we want to go."
New Visual System Balances Consistency and Individuality The rebranding centers on a unified brand system where FH55 becomes the primary identifier across all properties, without imposing uniformity. The group has adopted two signature colors—FH55 Testa di Moro (primary) and FH55 Beige (complementary)—paired with typography combining Ivy Presto serif and Futura Std sans-serif typefaces. Each property receives its own accent color (green, blue, or terracotta) and pictogram inspired by its destination's cultural and geographical character. This approach preserves the identity of Grand Hotel Palatino in Rome, Grand Hotel Mediterraneo in Florence, Hotel Calzaiuoli in Florence's historic center, and Hotel Villa Fiesole, while anchoring them within a shared strategic framework.
Positioning Around "Charming Luxury" The repositioning defines FH55 Hotels as offering "charming luxury"—understated, approachable, and free of ostentation—combining elegance, comfort, and authenticity. The group emphasizes five core pillars: tradition and roots, excellence and quality, functional elegance, responsible innovation, and integrated sustainability. "Each of our hotels will continue to have its own personality, while at the same time our sense of belonging to a shared reality, with common values and standards, will become even stronger," Catani added.
Brand Accompanies Property Renovation Program The visual rebrand accompanies a broader growth strategy centered on property renovations and strengthening the group's luxury positioning. FH55 Hotels aims to offer refined, personalized experiences through carefully designed spaces, thoughtful design, comfort, personalized services, and high-level culinary offerings. The group, owned by heirs of founder Dino Innocenti, also operates a charitable program: a partnership with the Little Sisters of the Poor in Florence that redirects surplus breakfast buffet items from Grand Hotel Mediterraneo to support over 70 elderly residents at the institute.
Why It Matters
As independent luxury hotel groups compete against global chains, strategic rebranding remains a critical tool for clarifying market position and signaling investment in renovation and service standards. FH55's approach—centralizing brand recognition while preserving property-level differentiation—reflects a broader hospitality trend toward portfolio brands that balance scale benefits with authentic, place-based experiences.
