Chipotle Mexican Grill is using a one-day double-protein giveaway to send off one of its most successful limited-time menu items. On Thursday, August 27, guests in the U.S. and Canada who order through the Chipotle app or Chipotle.com can enter code PROTEIN at checkout to receive a free double portion of any protein—meat or Sofritas—on a full-priced burrito, bowl, or salad.
The LTO's Final Run
Chipotle Honey Chicken, marinated with smoky chipotle peppers and finished with pure honey, has been one of the chain's most-talked-about limited-time proteins. Stephanie Perdue, Senior Vice President of Brand Marketing at Chipotle, called the farewell offer a direct response to fan demand. "Fans have made their love for Chipotle Honey Chicken clear, so we couldn't send it back to the vault without one last celebration," she said.
The promotion is available exclusively through Chipotle's owned digital channels—the mobile app and its U.S. and Canadian websites—and is not redeemable via in-restaurant orders or third-party delivery platforms. The offer is limited to one use per eligible transaction, excludes tacos, quesadillas, kids' meals, and the High Protein Cup side item, and is subject to availability. Mixed-protein orders will be charged at the higher protein's price point.
Digital-First Promotion Strategy
The move reflects a broader pattern in QSR digital engagement strategies: tying limited-time offer exits to app-exclusive promotions drives downloads, re-engagement among lapsed users, and loyalty program enrollment. With over 4,200 Chipotle locations across the U.S., Canada, and Europe as of mid-2026, the chain has the scale to move significant digital order volume through a single-day promotion. Channeling traffic to owned platforms also lets Chipotle capture first-party data and sidestep third-party delivery commissions—a calculus that has become central to restaurant margin management across the full-service and fast-casual segments.
Chipotle also signaled that additional menu innovation is coming this fall, teasing new flavors and expanded customization options without providing specifics. For operators watching competitive dynamics in the fast-casual protein category, the brand's consistent LTO cadence and digital-first promotional architecture offer a useful benchmark for driving trial and urgency around new ingredients.
