Luxury Chef Rejoins Florida Keys Resort Chef Brian Archibald has been named executive chef at Playa Largo Resort & Spa, Autograph Collection in Key Largo, Florida, marking a return to the property. He will oversee the resort's four dining concepts, private dining, culinary programming and banquet operations. Archibald brings 27 years of luxury hospitality culinary experience. Most recently, he served as executive chef at Hotel del Coronado in San Diego, where he led the culinary team across 12 food and beverage outlets, including Nobu, and supported the resort during a multimillion-dollar renovation. His career also includes executive chef roles at The Boulders Resort & Spa, The Phoenician, JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort & Spa, JW Marriott Camelback Inn Resort & Spa and Renaissance Phoenix Downtown Hotel. Archibald has worked with acclaimed chefs including Daniel Boulud, Gary Danko and Jeremiah Tower. He was invited to cook at the James Beard House in 2008 and 2009, and competed on Food Network's "Beat Bobby Flay" in 2017, where he defeated the host.
Ingredient-Driven Approach to Florida Keys Dining Archibald is known for blending Mediterranean flavors with classical French techniques in an ingredient-driven style. At Playa Largo, he will guide the culinary direction of Sol by the Sea (waterfront dining), La Marea (Mediterranean-inspired), Sand Bar (poolside), and Las Olas (cocktails and ceviche). "Returning to Playa Largo feels like coming home, and I'm excited to build on the resort's culinary identity," Archibald said. "The Florida Keys offer endless inspiration, from the local seafood to the relaxed energy of Key Largo. I look forward to creating thoughtful dining experiences that reflect that sense of place."
Why It Matters
The appointment signals Playa Largo's investment in elevated culinary positioning within the luxury Keys market. Archibald's pedigree—James Beard House credentials, Food Network exposure, and leadership at multiple high-profile Marriott properties—adds marquee credibility to the resort's dining program at a time when F&B differentiation drives loyalty and destination choice among upscale travelers.
