Callaway Golf Company (NYSE: CALY) raised its full-year 2026 financial guidance after third-quarter results exceeded internal expectations, with the pure-play golf equipment and apparel company now targeting net sales of $2.065 billion to $2.078 billion and Adjusted EBITDA of $272 million to $280 million—both above prior estimates and materially ahead of 2025's reported $222 million EBITDA baseline.

The Carlsbad, Calif.-based maker of Callaway Golf clubs, Odyssey putters, TravisMathew apparel, and OGIO gear reported Q3 net sales of $436.9 million, down 5.6% from $462.6 million a year earlier but better than management had projected. The decline was deliberate: the company shifted its irons launch calendar and culled lower-margin SKUs as part of a post-Topgolf restructuring, compressing second-half volumes in exchange for sharply improved profitability. Currency headwinds in Asia also weighed on the top line.

Margin Gains Drive the Story

The standout metric was gross margin expansion. GAAP gross margin climbed approximately 1,210 basis points to 51.9%, while non-GAAP gross margin rose 520 basis points to 45.0%. The underlying drivers—selective price increases, supply-chain cost reductions, and the removal of low-margin business—are structural rather than one-time, though Q3 GAAP results also captured $31.8 million in non-recurring IEEPA tariff refunds that were excluded from non-GAAP figures. Segment operating income told a similar story: the Golf Equipment unit earned $27.2 million on Q3 sales of $281.5 million (a 210-basis-point margin improvement), while the Apparel, Gear and Other segment—which houses TravisMathew and OGIO—posted a 42.3% jump in operating income to $19.5 million on roughly flat sales of $155.4 million.

"These results support an increase in our full-year outlook and demonstrate the benefits of our return to a focused, pure-play golf company," said Chip Brewer, President and Chief Executive Officer of Callaway Golf Company. The company is also investing in new 3D printing capabilities and fitting infrastructure as longer-term product development priorities.

Balance Sheet and What Comes Next

Callaway closed the third quarter in a net cash position, carrying just $76 million in total debt (including $26 million in financing leases) against $434 million in unrestricted cash—a dramatic deleveraging enabled by the first-half Topgolf transaction proceeds, which allowed repayment of over $1.4 billion of term debt. Year-to-date operating cash from continuing operations, excluding $44 million in tariff refunds, rose 45% to $228 million. The company also repurchased approximately 9 million shares year-to-date, deploying $135 million in buybacks with $70 million of authority remaining.

For Q4 2026, management guided net sales of $328 million to $341 million—below the year-ago $368 million—and Adjusted EBITDA of negative $53 million to negative $45 million, reflecting the deliberate irons launch shift, lower dividend income following debt repayment, and ongoing fitting investment. The quarter's expected loss underscores why the full-year improvement story is concentrated in the first three quarters. For operators and buyers across the hospitality and outdoor recreation supply chain, the trajectory reflects a broader industry theme: premium lifestyle brands are trading revenue volume for margin quality as consumer spending becomes more selective. Callaway's apparel unit outperforming on profitability even as golf equipment sales normalize is a signal worth watching across the food, beverage, and hospitality retail merchandise space, where licensed and lifestyle brands increasingly anchor resort, club, and venue gift-shop assortments.
