Allen Stanczak, a Florida multi-unit franchisee with Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii, has been named a 2026 Franchisee of the Year by the International Franchise Association — the organization's highest honor for individual franchise operators. Stanczak received the award at the IFA26 Advocacy Summit in Washington, D.C., held September 14–16.
From Pet Services to Coffee
Stanczak brought more than a decade of multi-unit franchise experience in the pet services industry before pivoting to the specialty coffee segment. In 2025, he signed a three-unit franchise agreement with Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii, covering a territory that stretches from Jacksonville Beach to Crescent Beach along Florida's First Coast. In a short time, he became one of the brand's most active internal advocates, joining the Franchise Advisory Council and serving as a resource for fellow owners across the network.
Tom Wylie, President of Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii, credited Stanczak's character as much as his operational results. "He has embodied every quality the IFA Franchisee of the Year award was created to honor," Wylie said. "We are very proud to see all his achievements honored."
What the Recognition Signals
The IFA Franchisee of the Year awards are open to top operators across all IFA member brands and industries. Nominees are put forward by their franchisor, with selection criteria emphasizing community engagement, workforce development, support for fellow franchisees, and entrepreneurial spirit. Matt Haller, President and CEO of the IFA, framed the honor in terms of what franchising can accomplish at the local level. "Franchisees of the Year demonstrate what franchising is all about — individuals who have committed their lives and careers to the betterment of those around them, building something bigger than themselves," Haller said.
For restaurant and foodservice operators watching the specialty coffee segment, Stanczak's trajectory illustrates a broader pattern: experienced multi-unit operators from adjacent franchise categories are increasingly entering the coffee and café space, bringing established playbooks in workforce management, community programming, and unit economics.
Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii, founded on the Big Island of Hawaiʻi in 1989, currently operates more than 45 U.S. franchise locations with 100-plus additional shops in various stages of development. The brand has also signaled plans to expand into grocery, hospitality, and specialty retail channels — a distribution push that could make it a more prominent name in beverage industry conversations beyond its café footprint. The brand is owned by Royal Aloha Franchise Company, LLC.
For operators considering franchise investment or benchmarking community-engagement strategies, Stanczak's model — using a brand platform to activate local events and support area businesses — offers a replicable framework that aligns with the hospitality industry's renewed focus on neighborhood-level relevance.
